Both Sjjh’s and Rog T’s graphs look like nice examples of the benefits of running more miles and running more often. Not a shock to anyone on here but a succinct representation.

I seem to have reached the point where my body can’t really take many more miles, even if I had the time to fit them in.

My attempt to tweak things slightly during my current marathon campaign will be to increase overall mileage slightly by extending my midweek medium long runs and Sundays’ long runs.

I’m not expecting much of a time improvement (if any) but I’d like to push back the raceday ‘survival’ phase a bit.

I'm about 65 miles total up against Chester last time on an 18 week comparison.

12 week comparison though looks spot on like for like, but average pace is quicker this time around. Time to test out the correlation / causation...

....there’s also the aggregation benefit of your conditioning (particularly psychological) amassed over the years. Even after a series of relatively fallow months you’re not starting from zero.

Yep, I'm pretty sure for me that 2019 doesn't happen without 2018 and 2017.

Yep, agree with both of the above - esp for WW. I've got more miles under my belt over the last couple of years, so the upward trajectory should still be there, despite me not really putting in a huge shift in terms of absolute mileage. Pace increase has not been forced though - MP miles at around 7:15-7:20 in 2017 were I think as challenging as those that I've put in at 6:50s this year.

Cant figure out how to post mine but mines slightly different.
If I put it over 16 weeks then it shows my marathons to be similar build up,but for 8 weeks Gran Canaria is a lot more miles than the others and that was my best race of the year,so maybe the steady approach then big ramp up works for me.
Decent week this week with 52 miles, happy to break 50 again after a busy week in work.
