FR- my best Snowdonia time is 20 minutes quicker than my best Windermere time although I'd have been in better shape/better trained. I'm just using this Snowdonia as a training run/kick start to my running - planning to do a spring marathon for the 1st time in a few years - probably Wrexham

Bazo, I'll def join you on a few parkruns. My plan for next year or so is to do marathon training but target all other race distances for improvements. Like the marathon volume and general distance training. But want to sort my 20 mile, maybe 10 mile, find a 5 mile ( never done one) etc. And see where my wava gets to on 5k etc even if I can't PB again. :-) G

Have a great run, JB. I will be back one year (to Snowdonia) but it will probably be at a pace almost half of yours. ;-)

SPR "FR - I'm surprised you think marathon pace is hard to predict, at the very least with your experience, you know what marathon effort feels like."

I know people who have run hundreds and hundreds of marathons and still can't pace them 'properly'. And I'll be totally honest I don't know what marathon effort feels like on a particular day.

Just look at any marathon and the number of people who pace them 'properly' will be a very low percentage, without checking I'd guess less than 1%.

In my view it is a fine line to get it bang on unless you're as well trained and as experienced as people like PaulA, PtB, Baz, Happy, KinkyS, etc.

In fact most people don't even seem to be able to pace a 5k, just watch the leeming rush at parkrun's around the country every Saturday morning ;-)

HappyG, I've only got one marathon booked after the one on the 24th October, which is Ibiza in early April. I'm seriously considering going back to basics, starting from scratch and trying to run my fastest possible 5k before considering longer distances.

When I say start from scratch that means everything, nutrition, running mechanics, strength and conditioning, etc, etc.

Very sad to hear of the death of a runner. It is a very fitting tribute to have a mark to honour on the thread - but may I suggest something.....

Most of you will know I had a cardiac arrest whilst training in a 15 mile run on 8.1.17 Without CPR and very quick access to an ambulance I probably wouldn't be here as I am (fit, healthy happy). I would ask that you honour the memory of the person who has died by committing to learning CPR and how to use an AED (automatic external defib) so if you are ever with someone whether it be in sport or life who needs CPR you are equipped to do it.

Sorry for the less running related post - i am so blessed that I am alive and back running. I doubt I'll trouble another sub 3.15 but to run another marathon would be amazing for me.

FR and SPR, sometimes things dont work out on the day. I feel I know what MP feels like, albeit I do overestimate slightly. I was in similar shape for VLM and Chester, arguably slightly better for VLM. I was broadly same pace to halfway in both but in VLM at 18 blew up badly whereas in Chester on arguably a tougher last 6 miles I managed to hang on in there. Not sure why.

FR, I am flattered but surprised to be in the category of good marathon pacers as I have my fair share of horror shows, plus the odd good one.

Ive just done a check on Power of 10 and I am amazed to see where I would be for Scottish over 50 marathon runners this year if I had been born 2 weeks earlier.

If ever a post deserves a +1, it is the one from LouLou.

Being a medical professional, what would the best way be to go about such training Lou ?

Bazo - watch this space. I've hopefully managed to start the ball rolling with teaching at Scottish parkruns. Think Pollok first one.

I'm planning - very early plans - for a "re-birthday run"'in January and hoping I would be able to organise some teaching at it. Probably at a parkrun :)

Count me in :-)

PS, my SiL has your Sister as her nemesis and is pretty peeved at the defeats at Cumbernauld and Glasgow.
