Larkim. What max do you use. I use 184 but from experience find 161 to be roughly mp in both training and Racing so work on that. Today's run towards the end was too high and above the 161 ceiling.

Same - 184. But I was running to a target MP of about 7m20-7m25, though HR averaged 150 through the MP miles. But maybe my max isn't quite that high these days. When I did 18:59 5k PB in April (https://www.fetcheveryone.com/t-13722233 ) the last mile was averaged 180, so 184 in the context of that seems sensible.

My grammar was appalling in that last post! Hope you could still make sense of it!

I've recently got a pair of rocklites which are quite lightweight (deliberately so for racing) but a reasonable compromise and may last better on road than mudclaws.
Larkim, I expect a slow upward drift in HR during a marathon - too much too soon and it goes down again as I die a slow death...I've put plots up on my blog post.

I commented on your blog Bazo asking if that HR was a bit too much drift but I'm no expert on HR training. I compared with my VLM HR which stayed pretty steady from 6 to 25 miles with only blips being at 13 and 22 when I high fived the Fetchpointers! Good MP both for you and larks though.
I love my Inov-8 X-talon 212s. Grippiest things for deep, wet, slippy mud, grass, wet rock etc. Light too. I don't mind them on tarmac, but most people complain about them on tarmac. I never got on with old model Roclites (315s) and gave them away in the end. Too hard and heavy. Nothing grips on ice by the way. You need full spikes or running crampons, imho, if you want to avoid a fall and possibly serious injury.
Great 20 miler yesterday and to answer the question about my 10K and half, they were both terrible times, but decent training efforts, I think. The half was 14.1 miles (1:38 - would have been 1:30 for 13.1?) and the 10K more undulating than I wanted (40:30). Enjoying my running at the moment.
Keep it going all. G

Yeah, ive responded on my blog comments. I agree, yesterday was not indicative of sub 3, but look at my MP run from 9th July and there the pace and HR were in a better place. Essentially I want the HR to be under 160 and the pace therefore should be sub 6:50mm.
I know I have argues against this, but it might bring racing to HR back in to the equation as I broadly know what my HR should be rather than go for a pace that might be ambitipous

Those HR graphs are fascinating jda. I'm going to graph my VLM2013 and Loch Ness 2012 now just to see! G

I made the mistake of reading forward in the plan, gulp.
What does everything think about the amount of hard efforts per week in P&D? Below is my schedule and thinking, I am not sure I will survive!
Mon Cross Training (Although foolishly I did a timed mile so I'm a bit knackered already) Tues Recovery 7 miles with some strides (I'll just about cope) Weds 11miles with 7 at Lactate threshold (sounds hard to me) Thurs Cross Training (i'll need it) Fri MLR 12 miles (if I do this at MLR pace as opposed to recovery I will find this not too easy) Sat 5 miles recovery (o.k.) Sun was 20 miles but I've got Maidenhead Half.
So 2 hard sessions (if I go for it at Maidenhead) and 12 miles which I'd class as not so easy. Do I take it easier at Maidenhead (I think that is a bit of a cop out - but I could do it at PMP as opposed to LT pace), or do I do Wednesday night session easier (PMP rather than LT). Or am I being a wimp and I should do it all as perscribed?
Your thoughts?

2 hard sessions a week is about right surely? It's what I've always worked to (through real life sometimes intervenes).

I'd do all as prescribed. It's those LT pace runs and intervals that makes MP feel easier. It's worked for me.
