Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Blimey, Gus, I see your point! I was just looking at the X-Talon 212. Bit more research required on my part.

Another Sunday, another opportunity for miles on the Chester course. 15 incl 12 at MP, of which 7-14 were on the run in on the course. Once again struggled to allow myself to ease off down from about 7:16/17 pace down to where I was planning about 7:25, and really felt by the end that this would have been too hot and pace to be getting to half way in. Either the taper will let me feel this pace is more comfortable at around 10 miles in, or it reinforces why I should rigidly stick to the 3:15 pacers for 10-13 miles or so just to make sure I don't overcook it.

Logs are freely available to anyone wanting to have a nosey about pacing those last few miles at Chester.

Mizuno, Ascis and Saucony make some really decent trail shoes if you want some variation from Inov-8.

What might be a good model of HR progression for race day? Clearly it depends on fitness etc, but should I be looking for static to half way then a gradual creep, or static for longer than that?

Winter trails. I use Asics Gel-Fujitsu ans Salomon Spikecross for ice (I wear sealskinz socks for warmth in snow and slush so buy bigger size); Saucony Peregrine for nin-ice. The Peregrines are no-fuss, basic trail shoes which are reasonably light with OK grip. I would buy any of these again.

Yeah, the Peregrines sell well.

A better weekend for me, after the disappointing Half last weekend.

Did a "lumpy" 10k which was slightly long in 41:11 yesterday. Then a decent 22 miles this morning, legs felt good the whole run, which was nice given yesterday's race.

Got a flat 10k in 2 weeks, see if I can get close to 40 mins.

That's encouraging Gus....how did HG get on in the 10K on Thursday, need to go to his log !

17 with 11 at MP for me today. Tough work and a wee bit off where I want to be both in pace and HR terms and where I was just before I missed a week due to injury.

However, good news is I still have 6 weeks, it will not be as warm and I will hopefully have shrugged off the bug I am carrying

Fenners/SailorS- Hmm. Not tried those trail shoes - Peregrines next time maybe. Dived in with the Roclite 305s - see what happens. 20 miler today couldn`t have been drier on the trails, famous last words...

I've enjoyed my Roclite 280s. Light, grippy, not too flamboyant. Though currently underused as I'm back on the tarmac.

Interested in your HR for MP miles Baz. I know you've said HR and pace weren't quite what your wanted, but looking back over your logs your seem to do MP miles at high 150s / low 160s and generally your zones are quite similar to mine and those numbers seem quite high, I'd certainly not want to be doing too many MP miles at that HR.
