Going to give this a crack once Leicester marathon is over in 2 weeks. Did some mile intervals last week, getting an average pace of 6:08 min mile for each of the 5 miles, so the pace is there. Just need to find a way to sustain it for 3 and bit miles with recovery! Never actually raced a 5k, nearest was 5 miles (33:15).

Anyone else going to Alex Park on Sunday? Assuming that I avoid a hangover I am going to run there, no chance of under 20 will settle to go under 21 for a new PB (currently 21:09) and then take it from there over the next few months. Will see how it goes have done no speedwork.

Found a 5k next weekend over in Fife that is supposed to be flat, it will be a challenge though as my running has been at best sporadic for a couple of weeks. Will try and push a couple of fastish efforts over the weekend and see how it goes.

It is in Giffordtown. I have no idea where that is, but I will get theaa.com's assistance! The race is on Scottish Athletics website and run by Fife AC.

Thinking of going to the track tonight. First time for years. The plan is to do some 1000m repeats. These should give me a base time for my potential 5k best, coz if I can't do 1k on the flat in 4 minutes, I aint going to be able to do 5k in 20 minutes (yet.....).

Don't write it off Parkbench. Your body's capable of the (seemingly!) impossible during races. Last week I did a 5 x 1000m session aiming for 3:38/km off short recoveries. I managed the session but thought there was little way (yet!) I could string 5 of these ks together back to back for a 5k. On Saturday I ran Bushy with an average pace of 3:36/km!
The track's also a funny one - lots of people find they can run faster on the road because of the mental toughness required on the track.

I must admit, that I find it easier to run faster on the road than on a treadmill, which is flat and straight. Strange old world of physics or mechanics or psychology or summink.
