I am no expert but half marathon is my best distance.
I do base runs going up to ~16 miles, hilly tempos, 6-10 mile tempos and 1Km intervals.

Good luck all with the target:) One session I found helpful in the run up to the first sub 90 I achieved was a 10 miler structured the following way: 1 mile easy/3 miles @ goal HM pace (or very slightly quicker)/2 miles easy/3 miles HM pace as before/1 mile cool down. I found it a good way to get a few blocks of goal pace in without wrecking yourself for the rest of the week's training...

Going away for the weekend but just found out there is a half taking place right where we are staying (Suffolk Heritage) but it might be a bit soon after Stratford last weekend.

I'm going to attempt this on Sunday in Exeter. Fear I will fade badly over the last few miles, as I've not really got the long tempos or even lsr in.
Hoping the theory is that if you can run 8 miles at the pace in training you should be able to man through on race day?
I have big plans to improve over the 1/2 distance though and am interested in what people think is a minimum for long run distance (10 miles+ each week?) and also for the race pace lactate threshold runs - how much variety in distance would be good and should the aim be to get the distance of them up?

I love half marathons, they provide the right combination of both speed and endurance for a real challenge.
My best half marathons in terms of a well run race have come whilst in the very thick of marathon training which shows how much commitment is needed to achieve a quick time.

Right ... I'm going to make my first attempt on 13 June.
Another easy week to recover from the marathon and then I will start a weekly tempo run, starting at current hm pace + 15 seconds for 3-5 miles and working towards target hm pace for 6-8 miles. If that goes well I will add another session with some long intervals too. I will continue with my long run at 16-18 miles plus a couple of short easy runs.
Anyone else with an attempt coming up - post it here and I will put you in the header.
