I’ve had 4 years of active retirement and am now 57. After my orthopaedic appointment yesterday I’m very unsure how much more I will be able to do in the near future. Grab the fun stuff whilst you can [I’m actually a bit shell shocked and nearly deregistered from here from last night]

If my dad was left on his own I suspect he'd start going abroad on holiday again. He's never had to organise holidays, but he's well capable of going into a travel agent and booking a package holiday and a taxi to and from the airport. Mum says he keeps telling her that she might be fit for a wee trip to Majorca later this year. Mum knows that no travel insurer would look at her, and she's not mobile enough to negotiate airports and getting on and off aeroplanes and she's like the Queen, she's not going to be seen in a wheelchair in a public place.

That bad, HB? Don't go, the way the site demographic is evolving I think you'll still find a place here even if running is out of the question.

Ally you reckon about 70 is the cut-off point for 'doing stuff'?
Running, cycling, hillwalking that I do, not far off it tbh.

there were under 30 MV70+runners at Manchester marathon, versus ~75 in the 65-69 bracket and nearly 200 at 60-64. Numbers for women are all lower but in similar proportions. It's a bit of a cliff edge. Of course a marathon is quite extreme, you don't need to be that active to be actively enjoying life!

We have two 80 year plus in our running club still doing hill runs. I learned most of local hills from one of them. 70? Pah, I hope to still be moving in hills well beyond that! G

What's been interesting in local races over the last ten years or so is that the organisers have had to add age categories - just a an oldest at '60+' or '65+' is unacceptable now. Several now have categories going up to 80+.
