That is a very fair point @cathrobinson I think I’ve been yabbering about it for ages and OH has been reluctant but the watered seed has taken off like a wild fire. I need to get my head in the game but knowing we can afford it easily makes it a no brainer. He’s already started a (unwritten) list - new downstairs bathroom, making garden furniture he’s threatened to do for ages! |

Mrs Axe has started to talk about pushing our R day back 6 months. There is some sense in this as we would work up until 3 months before our son gets married, it alllows us to save a bit more and also means if there is an annual bonus I would get it However, I am not sure I have another years working in me. I need to hope this new boss when he has his inevitable OD change decides I am part of the problem and not part of the solution. |

Bazo, maybe you can gracefully agree with your wife that she should work an extra 6 months

Had a discussion with my departing colleague the other day. He is departing to go to another job. We are both contractors so only get paid for the days we work. I asked him when he was starting his new job, he said Monday so I said oh I thought you might have a holiday in between. 'Nope, don't get paid so don't have a holiday' Well, I've just got back from a holiday and it was fabulous, I have no intention of not having holidays even though it means less money. I consider that I get paid well enough (better than if I did the jod salaried) and for my long term health need to take breaks! Nothing to do with retirement just an observation on my attitude to work, which I suspect means I'm not as 100% committed to my job as some others are |

HT, exactly same conundrum here, as a day rate contractor. I always too minimum holiday because didn't want to lose money. Now I'm much more relaxed about it. Theoretically I never need to retire! I could just keep taking more and longer holidays (no limit as a contractor, just "by agreement" with the project) G
