HoD - I got very close to going back to my 'old' company for a 4-6 month contract (albeit it working for the outsourced IT co) and the old-co had been sold to new-co, but in the end decided against it. The money wasn't worth the disruption to my 'freedom to do what I wanted when I wanted'.
Those 'few months' are now 4 years ...
(although I have just renewed my professional certification for the next 5 years, so who knows. Now I'm wondering if I can claim tax relief on it for being 'essential to my enployment', even though I'm retired and don't currently have or want employment)

I am worried I will get bored in the winter months, but am sure will be OK. I honestly cant wait for 3pm next Friday and my first week will feel like I am holiday as I am - off to North Devon 😁

I got bored after 3 years the first time I stopped working and made the mistake of thinking that the job I took to keep myself busy (and in running shoes) was the part time no pressure easy role they sold it to me as.
This time I can't imagine ever wanting the commitment of a job or even a volunteering role again

I gave up work (I was too young to retire and get any pension) one Easter, with the intention of taking the summer off to recharge my batteries and go onto the supply list come September. Come September, I knew not having a salary to contribute to household finances wasn't a problem, and I had absolutely zero desire to return to teaching. Boredom has never really been a problem

I retired at Easter, not sure how I managed to work and fit everything else in. I had thought about doing locum work before I retired, now not sure I have the time or inclination and we haven’t even achieved freedom from COVID restrictions yet. Enjoy the beginning of a whole new chapter.

I’m the same as LazyDaisy. Left teaching in January knowing that Mr Ness and I could manage without my salary any more, his pension and our savings are covering the bills for now. I will start claiming my pension when I reach my 55th birthday next spring. Boredom hasn’t been a problem for me which is quite nice considering Covid restrictions. It’ll be even better when I can get out more!

Benefits of retirement: mopping the kitchen floor listening to 90's dance floor classics and having the energy to dance to the music!
