One of my frustrations when I go food shopping at the weekend is that the shop is full of retired people taking their time and slowing the process down.
Those of us in work want to be in and out as fast as possible to free up leisure time. Surely the OAPs should get shopping during the week
PS - I know I could do shopping online, but I like to choose my own stuff !

totally agree! I have already decided that when part time I will swap my shopping day to mid day mid week

I don't do our food shopping, Mr Ness does it. Occasionally we pick up a few items on a Tuesday when we walk in to town and he drives in to town on a Friday for the "big shop" these days. Never at the weekend.

um
You won't like mid-week. It's even worse. And you'll need very sharp elbows for the reduced section.
(I've fully converted to online and delivery for my food & grocery shops. Fresh fruit & veg is about the only let down, but I'm fairly ruthless about rejecting or phoning and getting a refund on anything less than the stated life span or quality. I'm retired, I have all day to phone and complain.)
(Oh, and fresh meat and fish, but it's been quite a while since there's been any good butchers around, or any fresh fish that I'd rate as affordable)

Sigh
Things we have done today which we couldn't have done if we were still working:
1. Take advantage of a drop-in vaccination clinic for Jo (only open from 10 till 2:30)
2. Go in convoy to take my car into the dealer with a faulty battery, once the AA had got it started (90 min round trip in the middle of the day), and left it there, no urgency to get it back to be anywhere.
Tomorrow will be a haircut, midweek, mid-morning.

I'm retired. Food shop on a Wednesday morning, 8 a.m., when the shop opens. Shop quiet, all shelves well stocked. I have a list, usually loading the car by 8:20, home before 8:30.
Happy days. π

I will take up my horse habit again when I retire and if I decide to stay in the UK. 2x Icelandics, ride and drive.

Bulk of the food shop has been mostly online ever since Ocado existed, when working full time it was done on the way home from work, mid week.
Never on a weekend, canβt imagine anything worse.

I don't mind it either. It's more of a division of labour thing. Mr Ness does the food shopping and I catch up with housework while he's doing it. π
