Yep, @Gobi needs all the protective gear he can get!

Elbows and knees are the most likely things to land first in a crash (and the head, of course) so are more vulnerable to breaking than say a shin. Downhillers wear lots more too to protect backs, wrists and the like. You can also get shorts with padding for the hip area - another vulnerable spot in a crash.

I tend to wear knee pads when doing anything rocky - just in case.

Raced CX this evening and wished I had pads on as during warmup I landed in some nettles !!!

No falls in the race though :¬)

I really fancy doing something a bit more of a journey, rather than just turning up to bike trails and riding to/from the car park a bunch of times.

Anyone here do this type of riding?

I do non-trail centre riding. And also a bit of bike-packing.

Most of my rides are journey types RR. It’s a fab way to get out and explore an area. There’s plenty around Ballater way.

I don’t think I’ve got gpx for anything but there are some classics.

Heartbreak ridge (a couple of bits are quite techy but otherwise great route)
Green Mile
Belfast sink

The bike shop have a map I think.
