Tarland is on my must do list. In fact I could quite happily have a couple of weeks travelling round Scotland riding. There are a couple of domestic and financial implications associated with that plan though First ever British Cycling sanctioned enduro national champs this weekend. I'm in the chunky old girl category. Main aim is to get round without spannering myself. |

Is that an official category? What if you’re an old girl who isn’t chunky?

It’s not one of BC’s cats, certainly. I have no idea how many grand vets there are so I was just trying to make it even more niche. Although we appear to be Masters 50 now.

Sadly not! Although there's the Hope Wmn on the Saturday which is definitely for good time girls. Did that last year and it was definitely a good time.

Why knee pads? Stupid question I know - to protect your knees when you have a fall is the obvious answer. But why are knee and elbow pads so commonly sold and get their own sections on websites? The answer is obvious when it comes to a helmet. I know why I need to protect my head, but I just don't quite get why knees and elbows seem to come next. What makes those areas more important to protect than your shins, or butt, or any other part of your body? Do you wear any more protection than just a helmet? I'm just aware that I am riding bigger trails and riding faster than I used to. Looking at full face helmet and wondering if I need to consider something else too. |

I’ve never even considered any protection other than helmet. I don’t have a full face. Probably because I ride more ‘natural’ trails than trail centre stuff. The folks I see with padding are often the youngsters chucking themselves at big jumps/drops etc.

Yeah, I'll certainly never be hitting big jumps and stuff, but I do think it's possible to hit a tree face first. Not sure yet.

I wear body armour , elbow pads and knee pads as well as a helmet. If you as @cathrobinson it makes sense why I have kit |
