Yes, that's a far more efficient way of ensuring maximised RE useage JDA. And one of the reasons why vast storage options aren't needed. A domestic battery needs to cycle about 1/week and can charge when there is excess wind/solar. Distributed energy generation and storage is the key. Which is why the nuclear bollocks last week was stupid. |

Right, but we're back to "Everything, and Now!" So while it would be better if all energy were generated greenly, all transmission was efficient and all usage was minimized and smoothed, it isn't! Until it is, it is better that we all do as many of the tiny, inefficient, and admittedly far less effective things, than nothing. I think that's what we're being told? Doing these things mustn't be seen as "instead of" fixing all the big things that jda and fozzy you quite rightly say. But in addition to... ? ![]() |

Daily cycling seems like an important benchmark, and it’s easier to store 12h of use than 3 days!

Is reducing our dependency/usage not the far better route than finding fix arounds?

There’s always going to be a cycle of usage and intermittency of supply. Storage will be an important component of any energy strategy that uses significant amounts of solar and wind.

3M (aka MarkyMarkMark)
Going back a few days, someone in Aviva Investors has put together this on the proposed Nuclear generation and investment from private investors rather than (only) government. avivainvestors.com TLDR: Unless the Government can help put together a compelling benefit case which includes good Environmental Social Governance, private investors/institutions probably won't touch it with a bargepole, and there's not the "government" funding to go it alone. So it looks unlikely to happen, I'd guess. |

The problem with proposing speculative nuclear is it diverts commitment and resources from wind and solar which can be deployed now. Interesting link - thanks 3M. ![]() |
