Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Doctor K Cup

98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

Was going to duck out as it's a bit inclement here, but I think ITG might just have shamed me into getting my moon in gear and out into the maelstrom. I don't care about my prediction, I'm definitely aiming for the participation prize ;)

Great to meet CumbriAndy at Crosby today :) High tide prompted use of reverse route, a parkrun ultra, in fact! Challenging conditions: soft sand, cool wind & showers: in short, a bit grim up north. ;)

JK, I am still on the sofa so...

Cumbri, you just need to go out and run another 5.01km.

I wasn't sure a parkrun finishing time would be admissible as evidence this year. If I'd used my actual parkrun time I'd have been further adrift than I was with my Garmin 5k.

Cheers ITG - helpful as ever ;)

(Ordinarily, I'd probably do just that but I have Chester marathon tomorrow so will be spending the rest of today traveling and eating :) )

I was 90 seconds faster than predicted even though, as tail runner, I ran/walked most of the last lap with an armful of signs.

Well, my phone and headphones are both now charged to 100%, so I'm running out on things to procrastinate over...

I should have read the instructions, I thought no Garmin or watch, no matter as I was way out on my prediction which I am delighted with :-) Also forgot the K, too busy concentrating on parkrun fancy dress :-)

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
