The Doctor K Cup

98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

I've just run the Dr K cup in memory of him and other runners from our community who are sadly passed but always with us in our hearts. Xx

Changed to a slower prediction last night as My running plans changed this week and I needed to do my DrK as first part of a 10miler today. Thought I was about 20sec over when I glanced at watch when I knew I’d reached over 5km on my route, but Fetch’s auto benchmark thingy has me only 1sec over 😀

Lol, I was going c 10 miles in hills so split it into 3 x5km. You can call it cheating as I had to look at watch to do it. But 2:40 outside prediction?! Not very good cheating! Well done everyone. I didn't know Dr K except by reputation, but I had met Steady Edina, nice to think of friends past. X :-) G

My run was 10 miles so I put watch straight onto HR, so couldn't see the time and just ran until I'd heard 4 beeps (I'm Jeffing to HR at the moment), so had no idea how long it was taking me to cover the space.

I created ‘Doctor K mode’ on my watch, which meant it only showed my distance. It did beep the mile splits, but I made sure not to look at them.

I was 17 seconds slower than my prediction, but really pleased because (a) it was quicker than my all-out effort from last week, by 13 seconds, and (b) my splits were nicely consistent.

SooWoo - the benchmark might not coincide with the first 5k of your run. If 5.0 through to 5.1k was quicker than 0.0 to 0.1k, that’d account for it.

Well I completely failed at predicting my time I felt strong so kept going. First time ever this year I saw a 5k starting with a 27 and today I got my 3rd one 27.18!!!

Thinking of all friends & fetch family taken too soon.

I came on to check how I enter my time, seems I don’t need to. I knew I was close. My legs were dead by the 3.4 miles.

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
