Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Would agree with the approach of a google for closed/open questions and reword your sentence to best fit what you find.
Lots of examples from a survey perspective, but I don’t have experience in a teaching/coaching environment.

^ That's my background, um. Only when I started 'training teachers' did I discover how rich in theory education is!

This guide to questioning strategy was written by a tutor at an English-teaching school in Dubai. A downside: not many references but the content makes good sense.
sites.google.com

Here's the school's introductory page: thewinchesterschool.com

From my work with ESOL and EFL teachers, Gulf State schools set standards equal to those in the UK.

I have eventually found this.

interpnet.com

It might not be perfect but at least it compares both open and closed questions so I have a reference at least.

When deciding what sort of questioning to use, number of students or participants, range of attainment and where questioning features in the 'flow' of the lesson/input are useful to bear in mind.

Open questions can and do give a jumping off point for either spontaneous or structured exploration or discussion - these can be a gold mine for assessment for and of learning. In addition, this can relieve the 'teacher-to-student' pressure - and the peer pressure - of a question being put.
