Struggling to find a reference or evidence for open or closed questions. I've looked at the uni website/library, reading list books, all power points, google scholar, rcn, even the example essay (she doesn't have one either) Any ideas where else I can look please.

I said Using open questions allows the student to think and reflect on what they already know. Comment was Does it? What is the evidence for this? Is it for the student too think and reflect or for the coach to get a better understanding of the coachee's knowledge and skills? |

I also said A disadvantage of open questions are that it may take a long time to get an answer. In contrast, closed questions have the advantage of being less complicated and obtaining a quicker answer, but often they do not provide much information in return. She wants me to evidence this also |

I'm going to leave that for now and work on the rest of my essay and come back to it. If I have time to spend a few hours researching for it then I will do so. I know I will be marked down for it but I need to finish the rest of the essay as well. I can't submit and unfinished essay

Good idea EB. It sounds like common sense to me on both points, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true. Unfortunately this is outside my area, so I can't really suggest the best search terms. Maybe Fleecy will know.

Black & Wiliam carried out well respected work on formative assessment - your library should be able to give you access to the full articles. tandfonline.com An article of American origin: from the abstract: "In this article we examine some sequences of teacher–student interaction in which a teacher generates and acts on formative assessment data...." tandfonline.com |

Sounds good swittle Sometimes the most ‘obvious’ statements are really hard to find references for! Actually pretty much always! I’d suggest a quick google scholar search looking for specific terms in quotes and then grab any vaguely sensible looking reference, they’re unlikely to go read it |

If you get stuck on that EB I can ask my mother for some references, she specialised in the theory of teaching until she retired recently, i'm sure she could references.
