Got feedback on what I've done on my essay. Virtually the whole thing was highlighted with issues. I have had some very helpful critic though so trying not to be too downhearted.
Had my placement summative assessment today and passed! 😀😀 It wasn't due until 28th May but in the current climate my assessor said we are unlikely to get it done as we are due to change into a coronavirus receiving ward in the near future. She was on a management day today so we got stuck into it. There was one area I highlighted to her that I wasn't happy with my performance (she had been unaware) and I also asked for advice for dealing with delegation as it's something I find really hard to do especially when I know it's something I can do myself. Happy that I've passed and she's happy that I'm able to identify areas to improve and reflect on in order to learn more. So..... I've passed placement so I now need to work on my essay 😕 I also need to find out what will happen with my medication exam but hoping it will be Ok. Feeling a bit selfish worrying about it with everything else happening.
Carp how are you doing? X

Well done!
Sometimes tutors (we) forget the positive praise.

Well done EB
I'm in limbo, trying and failing to get dissertation written and awaiting deployment. We had induction today and yesterday.

Thank you 😊
Carp I really hope things become clearer for you soon. Its hard trying to do university work on top of everything else going too. Give yourself some breathing space if you can. Keep a notepad with you so you write things down if you think of something good or something youve remembered you need to include. I hope you are being paid during your deployment and you have a clear role and tasks identified for you. It's a very difficult time but we can also learn so much from this experience too. Lean on people for support and use OH if you need it they do sometimes just sit there and listen which can be a help in itself. I know your books are at uni still but does the Trust have a library you can access to help?

That's really good advice, EB (and well done on your assessment). I find that the good ideas come when I'm not sitting at my desk, or deliberately 'working on my dissertation'. They come when I'm feeding the cat, or cooking the tea, or in the shower. Getting in the habit of storing an idea until it can be written down is a tricky one, but I will persevere!

Had a mini meltdown yesterday convinced myself I was coming off the course. I sat in the garden crying like a baby. Hubby calmed me down and helped me out a bit so felt a bit better but still feel like I'm out of my depth a bit and I'll be lucky to pass my essay but 🤷♀️
Then I get into placement today. Ward manager has had a chat as our ward has been closed I may need to move as all the staff are getting redeployed daily and no one knows where they will be working. As I had my risk assessment done due yo asthma they won't let me go on a covid ward so I might need to be redployed to a clean ward. The thought of having to redo a whole new placement paperwork almost had me in tears. She was so lovely about it all though. Together we have planned that I will work as many shifts as possible with a named nurse who also can't go to a covid ward. However as I can't do nights due to my epilepsy I will need to work those other shifts with someone else. She has suggested I stay on the MAU where our SSU staff being redployed in the morning from and stay with whichever ssu staff are staying that day. She's going to put that in an email to the pdt team as the plan we have agreed and see if they are agreeable. If not I face a whole new placement 😔 having to prove myself all over again and the possibility of failing. Unsure what's going to be happening for a few days.
So. Essay. 😢 Not going well I won't have it done in time to get it to tutor for feedback before submission. Guess I'll get a nurse friend to read it for me. I know there's so much worse things happening and this is not a big deal in the light of everything else but in my small world it is. I will get through it and in a few days I will have a clear plan and I will no doubt find out if we get an extension on the essay which will give me some breathing room

Surely you'll get an extension? Every HE institution I know is granting blanket extensions on the grounds of Covid or moving deadlines. Please don't give up now.
