Jangles - I also did a degree with the OU and the support was inconsistent. I had a brilliant tutor, an utterly crap couple, and some in between. I was lucky that our tutor group were brilliant and we met up regularly to support one another. We still meet up occasionally and we finished about 5/6 years. See if you can find some like minded peeps. I would contact someone to raise the issue of lack of support as well though

Hammerite - you were obviously mulling things over in those three days. Processing time allowed you to have a productive day today :)

I have been wading through treacle this afternoon trying to finish off my account of work. Taking tonight off but need to think what I need with me at Uni tomorrow to get stuff done.

Possible HP, if my essay had been about James Bond and World War II films then definitely the processing time. I think it was more a case of "oh sh!t, this has got to be in tomorrow"!

Lots of sex and fertilisation today...revision that is.

Certainly not as exciting as it may seem. Have also found running to be excellent for procrastination. I trained twice today.

Right today I will be productive! It's hard that it's sunny though, I'd much rather go on a nice run and then maybe have a nap

I'd like to do that too. Instead I will crack on with reading, then go to an exercise class, then do a bit more reading. I wasted far too much time last night reading blogs about how to organise information, it seems like such a huge task when I have hundreds and hundreds of papers.

Do you use Endnote? I find that the easiest thing for papers. That and a couple of box files (but I only print at uni where it's free because I'm too stingy to print at home!)

I use Mendeley for organising papers, but I'm trying to work out how best to organise my notes on my papers and bits I've highlighted, and critiques I've written on them. And then how to be able to link all these together somehow, so that if I'm reading paper A I can think aha, that relates to the methodology in paper B and then be easily able to find paper B and the relevant bit of it. I'm sure a system will emerge eventually!

There's a programme called NVivo that might be able to help you. It's primary use is for doing qualitative analysis, but it can be used in the way you describe too- e.g. you can attach documents, highlight things, add comments and tag them into 'themes' but it retains all the information about where you got it from etc. Think it's quite expensive and it's a bit fiddly to get going with (but fine once you've cracked it), but you might be able to get it through uni

V busy day today running around. Organising a conference which takes place tomorrow. Really bad timing as everyone buggered off for Easter except me. Stressing over things like water and tables instead of practising my workshop which is what I should be doing.

Chapter deadline has been and gone with no chapter submitted. Supervisor has just asked me to do yet another thing asap which is not my chapter. Never mind. Get there in the end.

Happy studying, people.

Thank you pink fairy, I think they have NVivo at uni, I will investigate whether I could get it on my laptop for home.

Deep breaths, Linds, see if you can delegate something!
