I had to do a thesis protocol with minimal lit review. Our thesis is driven to some extent by the opportunities available to us on placement. I did do some reading prior to writing the protocol but as I'm using IPA I didn't want to read into the subject too much as it could influence the interview and analysis. I have taken my eye of the ball a little though.

Today is like wading through treacle again. Bloody ontology, stupid epistemology. Mutter, mumble, moan. 327 words in 2 hrs.....grumble!!

no, I got stuck in traffic and had to go to Waitrose. Ontology and epistemology is preferable! Actually, I enjoyed learning about ontology and epistemology

I've done nothing today too. Applied for a job this morning and generally mooched. And I'm meant to have a draft of this paper to my supervisors by Monday... better crack on! 2 months tomorrow 'til deadline day for me so obviously I am distracted by holiday planning...

You are probably right fleecy. I have actually enjoyed making sense of all the ontology/epistemology stuff it just feels like slow progress given the words produced. I think it reflects that i take time to understand something before I start writing about it. I shouldn't complain and shouldn't focus so much on the word count and more the quality of the words. As frustrated as I get I know that much of what I write remains largely unedited before submission - so taking the time pays off.

Hmm, but don't get too perfectionistic about your writing, sometimes you just need to get stuff down and then edit later. You'll always need to edit later, better to have plenty of words to edit than a smaller number of perfect words I am making a to do list. This is not procrastination, this is a logical response to feeling a bit overwhelmed at all the stuff I need to do and trying to work out what needs doing first. Honest.

Sorry that was misleading. I meant I don't often have to make huge changes to the content - other than reducing the number of words written. So far, a decent mind map setting out the structure/content for each section has meant I get a coherent idea of what I want to say before I start writing.
I am not having a productive afternoon. I just can't seem to get any flow this afternoon

AN hour done so far (and productive). Just finished breakfast and heading back to it.
Is everyone else studying this weekend? Or does anyone get to enjoy some of the other pleasures in life?
