Just to chip in, we were told that our institution had 'applied'to be part of the testing scheme for London, which suggests to me that it's not all universities that will be given tests. I could be wrong.

That's what it suggests on the Bath website, Linds. They have applied but don't know if they are eligible.

It seems odd and it's not what the press were reporting but interesting to hear that Bath are the same.

Fleecy - back to DoE ... when we were living inn Frimley last year & running on the canal, we met quite a few people working (volunteering) on the canal - either general maintenance or litter picking type things. Would anything like that help?

There are volunteer groups on both the Basingstoke canal and Blackwater river but I’m not sure how those will be affected by covid. They always seem very jolly when I run past them! Though I think they meet infrequently

This is an extract from the email sent to our students:

As widely covered in the media, the Government plans to support some universities with an opportunity to participate in COVID-19 testing for students prior to departure at the end of term. Our University has applied to take part in this scheme, in agreement with your Students’ Union and in consultation with our local health authorities.......

so definitely not for all.

Megalet: he did actually cover for one older kid who helps with coaching last year (and got paid for it!) but it’s mostly coached by professionals. It’s a good idea though, I bet his coach would be ok with him volunteering somehow to help the club. Maybe he could get involved somehow, I’ll ask his coach if he’s ever allowed to play tennis again...

And Linds: that was not how it was spun when first announced. How surprising!
