And the other one had turned in something that was riddled with typos.

So that's doing the parkrun with two left shoes and your pants hanging out from under your shorts? I think you should get 30s discounted off your time for being sloppy, yeah.

My 16 Yr old Marhs student worried me when in a reasonably complicated algebra simplification she asked me if it mattered what order we multiplied the numbers... errrmm. Exam is 4 weeks away. :-O

Oh well, I hope I'm helping scrape a few extra marks. :-) G

Given how few of mine are actually turning up lately, I hope they don't come to me about "time and effort" or I'll probably explode at them. For now, I'm just dreading the MEQ scores (student evaluations timed for before they've even submitted the last coursework, sat the exam) coming out, because they were terrible last year and I can't see that they'll be any better this year.

My project students often get me a little something, although we have to be careful accepting gifts to make sure that they're not expensive or before the final exam board.

I think I have talked myself out of even applying for the Lecturer job - I would love to move to academia at some point, but the not insignificant 5-figure pay cut (and thats the top of the advertised pay grade), plus the difference in cost of living, having to sell the house here, and the slim chance of finding a 4-bed house with big garage and decent garden at anything like a reasonable price in York have all made me think that the grass may not be greener at the moment. And as it stands I actually quite like my job so not like I need to jump ship...

Maybe I will have to see if the local uni needs a part-time lecturer...

There are enough educators on here that I thought it might be nice to have somewhere supportive to rant and problem solve.

Everyone is welcome.
