I'd be interested in any recommended 10k plans. My last 10k PB in November was 3 weeks after completing my first marathon. It was a test of how much my speed and fitness had improved over the corse of the 16 week marathon trainingprogram.

I think for me to get sub 50 I'll have to focus on finding a good 10k program and train specifically for that rather than throwing in some 10k races as a test of fitness in between train for half marathons and marathons!

Pammie,

I mentioned some key elements in my previous post. When I get more time a may draw up a little more detailed plan so you could see what I think it would need for you to get this goal.

Pammie,

Having a base is good but you are also going to need SPEED or you will never reach your goal.

This is one of my goals for the year too.

Currently at a PB of 52:05 so a little way to go yet. Was planning on doing some more specific 10k speedwork etc once VLM is out of the way. :-)

JHuff don't worry i know about the speed part. I think the word base can be confusing. When i say base i don't mean all easy runs will include one type of faster running don't like to use the word speedwork as that has differennt meanings as well. But at the moment i can't run for 10km without walking so i think i hae to work on that first

Welcome Bintmcskint, i haven't got any races in mind either

Tagazou welcome to the thread and to Fetch as well you'll get there

Another sub 50 10k hopeful here, did it twice in 2007 then got injured. Managed 50:53 in a hilly 10k before Christmas so hoping I'll manage it at a flat one in February or March. Marathon training at the mo but will follow a more specific 10k plan once that's over.

A thread for me too. This is not one of my immediate goals, like Bintmcskint I have VLM to get out of the way first, but something that I would like to achieve in the next year or so.

Excellent thread idea - count me in.

I managed to go sub 50 on new years eve to finally meet a long term target. We'll have to see whether it is repeatable! For what it's worth I worked off a plan based on either weekly tempo or interval sessions building up to 4 or 5 miles at 8 minute miles, or quicker 1k repeats with 400m recoveries (although Gobi suggested dropping the recovery to 60 seconds in a different thread). Long runs were up to half marathon distance as that was what I was working for in the autumn.

Now I'm trying to keep the same sort of pattern but with less milage to hopefully speed up over 5k, then see how fast I can get round 10k in Kings Lynn in May!
