DT19 wrote: Rhb, good session. 1.21 half definitely points to a reasonably comfortable sub 3. I'd trust a tapered half race over an untapered session. My last big one today, 21m with 7k, 6k and 5k at mara pace off 2k easy. Came out 6.14mm, 6.13 then 6.11 for the last block. It was also a comfortable finish in that there was no hands to knees etc, just stopped and walked. That's my biggest 5 weeks training block done so hopefully some taper magic now. Thanks, Sounds a great session you ran there. Taper time is nice place to reach. Hope yours goes smoothly 👍 |

I find myself looking forward to the taper in the last few weeks of training then hating it when I start bouncing off the walls. Lol. Hard work is done DT19. Stay sound and well.

Lmh, yep this time last week I was thinking I so need the taper. I'm now looking at it with a degree of disapproval and resentment.

Sounds like you're going into the taper in a very good place DT19, I know it's tough but enjoy freshening up a bit 👍🏻

DT19, 'the hay's in the barn' so to speak. The way I cope is to maintain the frequency and intensity, but dial down the distance. Happy to come through a couple of tune-up races to the taper unscathed. My hip diagnosis earlier in the year indicated that I might not be able to run another marathon, so I'm glad to have proved someone wrong. |

Probably not the place to ask directly, is there a thread for local knowledge on accomodation options for various races? I.e. folks chip in if they have local knowledge? I've not sorted owt for Abingdon yet and don't fancy a 3hr drive on race morning, the nearby hotel has a room at £400 with the organisers discount which is a bit pricey for me. |

Is there an abingdon thread? That's where I would start.

Which direction are you travelling from? There will be plenty of premier inn type accommodation at places like Newbury, or Oxford. Just drive the last bit to Abingdon on the day, the parking at the school/college on race day works well.

Rhb, as TR says if you are driving then book something on the route. If coming from north look at Premier inn type places on m40 in places such as Leamington would have you 45 mins or so away.

Not since pre-Covid by look of it I'll search through that thread just incase though. fetcheveryone.com/forum/abingdon-marathon-55608/ Good shout on motorway accommodation on the way TR & DT19, I'm headed from mcr so will look into possible options anywhere south of b'ham tomorrow. I had thought about getting the train then staying close to start but will likely drive now. |
