I don't think I could ever manage 16miles at goal MP, sounds like a brutal session. That 20 looked pretty comfortable for you - nicely done.

A good weekend of training there rhb! I also find it funny when XC is in September, its more of a train run than XC I guess.

I've been looking at asics cumulus trains and there are some cheap ones that have the words 'Laufschuh Herren' on the end at amazon. Anyone know if these are the same as a cumulus from sportshoes or some kind of lesser version of the cumulus?

16 at mara pace sounds heavy. I'd fear fatigue from peaking too soon, but that me.

I’ve done 16m at marathon pace a couple of times within longer runs. The first time it set me up, finally feeling confident I could maintain the pace and do it. But I was fitter than I’d expected and ran ~10s a mile faster on the day.
The second time, I laid out a slightly too lumpy course and really struggled. Whole run came out as nearly 24m and I was shattered after it. Essentially wrecked my marathon build up as it tipped me over the edge and I spent weeks recovering. It wasn’t just that one run, but it was definitely a large factor.
I’m not planning on repeating it in future!

I think 13m at mara pace in one run and block is the limit I'd want to run, as per my run Sunday. Couple of easier days and be back to it tomorrow.
You might never know it until after the mara, but you're likely to look back and see you peaked on that big training run.

I think I may have done as much as 25km at MP once - the plan asks for it - but more usually I just race HMs instead of those workouts. Which must be a fairly similar training effect and also has race practice and fitness testing.

Hmm, I checked plan again it says "16 miles final 4 mile push HMP" which is either easier (steady 12 then final 4 push @ HMP) or brutal (12 @ MP then final 4 push at HMP).
I'm a huge fan of getting to goal races not knackered so will clarify with club coaches & adjust accordingly.
