A quick de-lurk (been following the thread but dont particularly feel in sub 3 shape) firstly to wish those racing this w/e good luck and secondly to ask what’s the worst that can happen with an extraction the week of a Marathon? (57.5 DoP) - I’ve one booked the week of VLM.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Two things you'd worry about beyond 24 hours after the extraction (bleeding is only an issue on the day):

1. Excessive swelling - more common with wisdom teeth or difficult extractions but always a small risk.

2. Dry socket - very painful failure of proper healing. Can be sorer than the toothache. Rare but would really mess up your running.

Most extractions would be fine after a few days, but painkillers might still be necessary.

Glad I’m not the only one with teeth issues!
Was my sugar highs as a kid worth the pain now.......😄🤔

Just de-lurking to wish everyone well and trouble-free marathons.

JDA - Hoping to see your result before I scan down past 2:45:00.

As someone who can't regularly commit to achieve sub-3 form, I take my hat off to all of you, especially those who have been on this forum for years. I may be back in late 2019 when I hope to be in good form again because I will be in my first year as an over 55.

Thanks 57.5, my worst fear was the plug popping out under pressure followed by a geyser of blood. I’ve been waiting since before Xmas so I think I’ll bear the risk.

Chris
Solo 10k again this morning since it looks unlikely I’ll be running over the weekend.

Fairly happy with a 36.33, roll on London

I'd be more than happy with that in a race Chris - but then I'm old and slow:-)
