Thanks Brunski/LMH. I'll certainly be taking the advice.
You're right LMH - I seem to be quite popular this afternoon

Just a thought. At the start of March I switched from Nike Zoom Structure 20 (severe overpronator) to Nike Zoom Structure 21. I have used the Structures for years, starting with a pair of Structure 15's and never had any issue. Since March I have been using my 20's and the 21's. Is it coincidence that this knee problem has come along now or could the 21's have something to do with it?

Anything is possible Fordy but it shouldn't really be the shoe if it's just the latest incarnation of one you've been using for years unless they've changed more than the colour. Having said that I have occasionally had a pair of what I call 'Friday' shoes (as in made on a Friday when people's thoughts aren't on the job) that have been the same model as pairs I have in use but just not quite right if you know what I mean?

not knowing anything about the shoes, any change is a risk especially in a high mileage phase. I’m generally not fussy about shoes but always break in new pairs gradually. Switch back for a couple of days?
Doesn’t sound great for the sub3 posse! I also have a stressful personal situation ongoing which may prove a handicap on the day. As fordyboy says, there are worse problems than a missed marathon though missing it won’t actually solve anything so hoping I can compartmentalise adequately and get some satisfaction from a job done. Two days off for me now, but back home and will be out again tomorrow.

I hope that you can still run jda - if as you say not doing so won't help then you may as well take when stress relief you can.

Fordy, Ive been like you, faithful to Asics Cumulus since 2009, but the 18 and 19 models have started to cause me issues and I might need to change.
Also just home and used my oldest shoes which may now need retired as I can feel my achilles niggle.
JDA, hope you get personal issues sorted

Sounds like some positive news this afternoon.
I'm in the personal issues boat too which is affecting my mental attitude towards running (and speed during efforts). Hope you get it sorted soon JDA, you need to have your head in the right place to get the best out of the legs

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Two contrasting days Sunday and Monday, though both featured about 22 miles of hilly terrain in a bit over 4 hours. Sunday was almost balmy and made for a steady sociable day out with a couple of friends. Monday I went harder with just the dog for company, and conditions were really tough including 2 miles into a brutal headwind (I don't know how the weaker runners in the group managed to survive that bit, I was giving up the will to live). Lots of boggy trail to contend with too. A day for developing mental strength! Belle the dog is an emerging running star.
Bit of a cold now so taper starts here.

Thanks guys. I think I'll stick to the old shoes for whatever mileage I manage this week and also for the race (if I make the start line).
Sorry to hear about the personal matters JDA and Chris. Hopefully everything works itself out for the best.

Sorry to hear about these non-running issues affecting folk. I've had my share of those over the past year or so so can appreciate how it affects you!
Not expecting a fetch mail but if anyone needs someone to let some steam off to/ask an opinion from then don't hesitate to drop me a message, I'm not great on the phone (due to my stutter) but I'm a decent listener 👍
