Nice one Chris, that's a cracking 5k mate!
I've had a wet weekend at Legoland. I started coming down with a cough at work on Thursday after my last long run, it got worse overnight and the last 2 days I've been hacking like a dog around Legoland in the rain (pretty miserable experience if I'm honest). I managed to squeeze in a 40 minute treadmill run at the hotel last night but after a 3.5 hour drive back and having eaten my dinner I'm very tempted to have a day off today (only missed 05/01 this year). Only thing stopping me is my head saying 3 weeks out should be my longest week, and I'm not going to find time to squeeze in 18 tomorrow.
Chest is full of catarrh, throat is sore, but could probably potter out for 40-60 mins when the kids are in bed, or just leave it?

Ok, scratch that. I mean 17 min parkruns Stonking time Lee, and impressive mileage from LMH - doesn't seem that long ago you were struggling to get fully fit, unless I'm misremembering...
Brunski, I know ideally you'd be going flat out but if you're struggling for any reason then a slightly early taper/extra day off won't really do any harm and is much lower risk than one run too many! Last year I wound down early and was good and fresh for race day.

Brunski - don't you dare! If symptoms are below the neck and you run you risk making yourself much worse. Take it easy until you feel better, you won't lose anywhere near as much as you think if you don't run another step between now and London but chances are you'l recover in time for a last long run at the end of the week if you feel you need it.
jda - you remember correctly and to be honest I'm not sure exactly what those lost five weeks are going to mean on the day but I've done the best I can in the time I've had. The endurance is there but whether the speed is remains to be seen.

Thanks both.
LMH I remembered reading the below the neck rule and this was a reason I posted here - for someone to tell me not to run, as I really didn't fell like it.
I was that wiped out after dinner I had a lie down for '5 minutes' and didn't wake for 90 when I heard the kids getting ready for bed. Definitely not running today, and will try not to rush starting again - I expect I'll start getting twitchy after 3 or 4 days though.

Normal eating it is then!
Brunski, Nowβs the best time to get it. The miles are in the bank so take it easy and do what say, not as I do π

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Brunski has it correct. There are few pubs in Kintyre but they are all receiving a visit. Get well soon by the way.
34 miles today. 11 tough ones over boggy hills with great views of Ireland, then about 19 on roads with a lot of 'ultra shuffling' but with a nice 4 mile inter!ude part way on the beach. Feeling tired now!

I hope the weather is kind and you continue to enjoy the next couple of days 57.5. I enjoy ultra training. Would like to do The Wall but Mark (my husband) was less than enthusiastic about the prospect of giving up a weekend to support me so unless I can hire a support crew it's probably not going to happen.
Brunski - if you rest as much as you can, sleep extra if you get the opportunity and eat well (lots of fruit and veg) you'll probably be ok for an easy run in a couple of days. Start back with short and easy and you'll not have lost anything. If you know your usual RHR then my rule of thumb is no running at all if it's 10bpm above normal, short and easy if it's raised between 5-10 bpm and I'm feeling the need to get out.
I'm crackered Lee trust me, took my legs about five miles yesterday to join the party.

Thanks for the advice LMH, very sensible! I'll definitely be taking it as easy as I can over the next few days and will check RHR before next running.
At the moment I'm feeling like death warmed up and that I'll never be fit to run a marathon in 3 weeks, but I hope that's just me overreacting.

Sounds pretty normal to me Brunski, especially this close to the big day. At least when you feel that bad there's no should I/shouldn't I about going for a run. Check your RHR every morning, it will give you a good indication of whether you're on the mend or not.
