I should have been:-(

22 miles for me this morning too Brunski and wasn't it a lovely morning for it once the frost had gone (you'd have been out long before me though, I walked the dog first). A lovely run, finished feeling really strong, a good negative split. Maybe it's all coming together at the right time?

Pace wise I think that the first 13 miles should feel far too easy, 13-20 should feel like your usual long run, 20 - 23 you need to start focusing and from 23 it's kitchen sink time. I spent a lot of the first half of Robin Hood telling the people running with me that we were too fast and needed to back off (we were all looking for sub 3, some who had run it before, some for the first time) needless to say they all felt good and went ahead - and I overtook them all from 16 miles onwards.

Yeah it was a great morning for running LMH, I didn't see much frost (other than having to scrape the car first thing). I parked near work, ran to a mates house and had a nice winding 6 mile run through parks and a cemetery (I joked that he got the Graveyard shift), before snaking down to the train station for his commute to Leeds. I then went to meet another friend and we ran up to the edge of the countryside, hit a few parks and then I dropped him back near home after 10miles and came back down the last 4 miles on my own. The last miles were the hardest by far, not through effort or pace, just from being a bit shattered after an early start and having the HM in the legs a bit still.

My pace averaged out at a shade under 8 m/miling, which was fine as my only intention was to get to 22 miles and spend a decent time on my feet :-)

Was also perfect running weather in Stirling this morning. 14 clear and crisp enjoyable miles in sunglasses, yet yesterday I was battered by hailstones and couldn’t feel my fingers!

I see for London they are doing wave starts. A good thing in my opinion to cut down on congestion.

I also should've been FGFA this year which would've been my first year on red (all previous years I've been on the green start but last year I ran a sub-3 blinder).

I've not run a step since the 11th March when I woke up and found I couldn't take a single stride. I have a "dead leg" sensation in my left leg, difficult to describe but it's like all the tension's gone out of it - it's happened quite a few times before and I've never really worked out what causes it. It'll pass eventually though, although this one seems quite severe. I've still got the swimming pool, bike and indoor rower to keep me busy.

Wave starts? They got that from Paris M I guess.

Really sorry to hear that Oranj - have you had it investigated? Sounds as though it could be nerve related?

Sounds like sciatica Oranj, it takes weeks to get over it. 😔

Sorry to hear that Oranj. It sounds unpleasant. I managed to have a slightly sore ankle yesterday, I think it was a combination of taper madness and a hangover from the fast threshold intervals on Tuesday. Nothing serious and it's fine again today though, aiming to go for a medium-long jog later this afternoon.

Wave starts are great and should be used by all large events. Did one in Vienna though being in the front (post-elite) bunch means there was no impact on me (though there was for my wife further back). I don't think there is any reasonable argument against in these days of chip timing.

BolderBoulder 10k has over 50k people setting off in bunches of 1-200 every minute or two with qualification thresholds for the faster waves. It's fairly busy all round, especially later on when the waves are self-chosen and people use the wrong one for various reasons, but it would be horrendous otherwise.

Been Lurking here for a while and feeding off the positive vibes and racing / training reports. I'm running London and hoping for a first time Sub 3hr. (only tried two other times - blew up badly in London in 2013, and ran 3.01.38 in Dublin in 2014)
Like Fergus I have been following 18 week P&D up to 70 mile. Done most of it. Missed the odd one here and there but been pretty solid.
Got my number through today and will be Green Start (the same as last year). It all starts feeling real when you get the final instuctions / number through. :)
For what it's worth my most rewarding races have always been negative splits. Fully agree that passing people in the last 10K is a good feeling and really helps maintain a strong pace. If you are feeling bad your mentality can quickly crumble and the pace drop off.

Last year only did up to 55 P&D and hadn't run much for a couple of years, but setting out at a conservative pace, meant that I was able to finish strong and exceed my expectations. Could I have run faster? Very hard to say. But if I had gone out faster then 100% sure it could have ended badly.
However the pos / neg split argument is irrelevent if you haven't done the miles.....

Also IMHO don't be disheartened by the marathon pace runs. I think these are super hard in P&D and expecially if you do them solo, in non race conditions (like I do). They are for training effect and I don't thinkk they should be used for predicting race pace....Warm up races are much more useful.

Keep it up everyone. Not long now.

Welcome Ralph D. Looks like you are there or thereabouts with the training this year. A bit more experience than last time can only help.

Having read those other comments I'd also echo the sciatica comments for Oranj, hadn't thought of it myself but it makes sense.
