I think I made things hard for myself by sticking to my original target despite the heat. I ran the first half of the race in 1:59 and the second in 2:21. Lots of people seemed to struggle but it was still an enjoyable experience for me.

I've just finished writing a blog post about the race and it's made me realise what a long and difficult process running a marathon is and how proud of ourselves we should all be, regardless of how things ended on the day. It's tempting hanging out on fetch to compare your time to the times of others and be dissapointed but from the looks of amazement you getting telling people you've run a marathon I think we should feel that just being able to do something like this is an amazing achievment! :)

I completely misjudged it, undertrained (no specific mara training at all, total disrespect for the distance.....) blah blah blah....overshot my one and only previous mara time by 12 minutes and ended up with 3:43...and I had a right laugh! Ran round with a certifiable :- 0 ultra runner from Brecon called Hugh who - as well as being a top bloke - in fact got me round when the quads turned to chopped liver. We chatted from mile 1 to the end, the poor sod.

So, onwards and upwards, rah rah rah....

Mick, Phil...you really are the dog's ollbocks whatever happens. :-)))

gadgy, I said it was my one and only marathon as I crossed the finish line. However, I've reflected on what happened and decided to enter Nottingham in September. My finish time was only 23 mins ahead of you which should I continue the right level of training will give plenty of room to improve in 5 months time.

There's no need for you to rush into the decision

I know it was tough due to the heat but I can't believe how many people are considering calling it a day after that mara, I am most likely out of action for most of may and yet I can't wait to get training again so I can be in better shape for the next marathon that's unfortunate enough to have me run it! :)
