Shades, I'd be fine on that bridge - it's wide open space that gives me the willies so more like big wide and long bridges. Also OK with heights.

WP - nice deadlifting and enjoy the new laptop. Any new computer is a pain until you've set up all the programs and bookmarks and stuff, but after that, things are so much better. Same with phones I guess. I really need a proper phone as I barely use mine and it's too old to run many apps.

Ian, I don't know about first world problems - you've been unlucky and stuff like that is scary. Hope you feel better soon.
Shades - hope you are also feeling better soon.

Steve, good luck with the race.

Ian, really sorry to hear that and bad timing too. Yeah, I don’t think that’s a first world problem either, but a health concern, and it must have been disconcerting being all that time in A&E.

Ian - hope you're feeling better today.

I thought my cold was getting better but had an awful night, hot/cold, aching all over and no sleep. RHR + 10 today and I feel much worse than when I had Covid.

Ian: I hope you are feeling better today. Not nice being in hospital for all that time.

Cal:We seem to opposite as far as bridges go.I am fine with big concrete or even metal ones it is the small narrow, wobbly ones,

Shades that was a great deal with phone!! never ever had a deal like that.
Sorry to hear you are feeling worse today nothing to do but ride the storm,That is a high RHR.

1 degree here so taking my time till I go out hoping it warms up a little! My RHR had climbed a few days but dropped down to normal again,I think it likes the cooler weather.

WP - I think Samsung are offering the free Workbook again now. Don't know about the Adidas voucher. Mind you even with the discount when I bought mine it was still a fair chunk of cash to pay. I have found the Workbook really useful.

I think I must have had a temperature when I got up this morning. Only after some tea and paracetamol did I realise how cold it was. 3 degrees here, feels like 1.🥶

I've eaten now and feel a bit better.

Still got headaches but not as sever today, but I was able to ear and drink yesterday afternoon which I didn't really do on Wednesday.
BP was still in 150's last night so will test again today, along with starting the meds and see where it goes.
Luckily I had my BP 2 weeks ago and it was fine so I have a base to work from.

Ian, good that you’re able to eat and starting to feel a bit better today.

You’ve had some really bad luck, Shades. Your sciatica, Covid and now this. I bet you’re looking forward to putting this year behind you from a running point of view, and hoping for betting things next year. I hope you get rid of it soon.

Yes, forecast looks good for tomorrow. As you know, it’s not one I can ‘race’, just because of the nature of the course, stopping at the aid stations etc. But I’m just hoping for a confidence boosting run out, but there’s a strong chance it may turn into a shuffle towards the end. We’ll see. I am glad I read the email Jen sends out as it’s an 8am start.

The actual AGM is at 3pm and I’ve said I’ll attend, as I’m intrigued how things will go. Not really expecting a big turn out though. Reading the proposals is interesting, as there seems to be something in there around cheating. Not sure if there’s been a couple of isolated cases or what (I am only on the very periphery of the club), but they’re basically saying that as a club it’s down to the RDs to deal with cheating. I can kind of understand this as to validate numbers the club just look at race results, and I guess an RD would DQ anyone to be found cheating. But I have never seen anything official from the club on their stance on cheating, although it’s very possible I’ve missed it, but then I would hope 99.99% of members would never contemplate it. I do have a couple of stories of witnessing people cheating in races though.

Anyway, just the 3 miles today. Really just to test the shoes I’m wearing tomorrow (and at NYC if tomorrow goes well).

Ian - good you're feeling a bit better and BP coming down.

Big G - this year and last. I missed 12 marathons last year, knee injury and missing that plane!

I think you'll have a good race tomorrow, you know you've been training well, weather looks good and they'll be plenty of company on the course.

Re the cheating, I agree down to RD to disqualify cheaters. But when I was on the 100 club committee we dealt with some cheaters. A RD wouldn't know what marathon time a runner might do but certainly our fellow club members would know. One 100 club runner ran his 300th at London (this was many years ago). He went round collecting money in a bucket which of course naturally slows a runner down. At halfway he was interviewed by Sue Barker, about 3 hours into the race. He then completed the 2nd half in a time that would have qualified him for the Olympics. He was adamant he didn't cheat, he did cheat and he's cheated before in races.

Ian: Good news on BP lowered andyou feeling better and able to eat.

Big G Good luck for tomorrow and hope it is warmer for you.

Shades: That is a bad 2 years and a lot of missed marathons! Hopefully 2025 will be the start of some good times for you.I dont intend to change phones till it starts playing me up.It is funny enough a Samsung Galaxy had it three years so far.

over 4 miles this morning this morning it was 2 degrees when I ran and I was cold! Jumped in ice tub well I stood in it as 8 degrees for 7 minutes as my feet were numb and painful.I was very glad for my hot shower.
But talking to local farmer we are going to have warm weather last week September and first two weeks October! Bit of a shame I go away third week in October....;-)

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
