That's very scary LMH, and a strong incentive to stay well and avoid the need for any treatment.

TR - Ah bugger. LMH is right, you need a proper prognosis and treatment to stop these issues reoccur. Easier said than done mind but as this problem has persisted, its worth it.
OO61 - The icy run sounds idyllic. I've some friends around there and they were sending/ posting some pictures, looked gorgeous.
DT - Good to see your on it. Wardi - Great mental fortitude with the treadmill. LMH - Good plan. Seems dry and cool, clear days are on their way from the weekend! Hope so.
With snow in expected, did 10K before the sleet arrived. It then stopped. So well wrapped up, ran with the running club as high as we could - in this case the St Breock Downs - to run and have a few snowball fights in the snow. 13.5m for the day. Now sunny and the snow has gone.

Clear and frosty here. Forecast said it was feels like -4, so I was double gloved, buff over the ears and double layer on my top half. I could have done with windproof leggings: even after only 5 miles my legs were very cold. At least the ground was solid enough that I could run on the grass rather than risk slipping and sliding on the pavements (we had sleet late yesterday, so there was ice rink patches!).
I think it sounds like a diagnosis would be a good idea, TR, and if there's anything extra you could do.
Well done for getting out, OO61 and DT19. I hope that the tech issues get fixed, DT19.
My OH is a doctor, although not A&E so not affected in the same way as you, LMH, but I'm very conscious of how poor NHS moral is at the moment. OH says it's as bad as when he first qualified in the mid 90s, at the end of the last patch of chronic underfunding.

LMH - Thanks and your situation sounds full on. I could not cope with that cold. Your fall sounded horrific. My mother tripped up and fell last year and broke her hip. It was pretty bad and they subsequently diagnosed her with Osteoporosis. She's doing well now though as she's a very active healthy 70 year old. Well done on sorting the entry. Will be great to have you over here, looking forward to meeting you.
OO61 - Thanks pal. Nice of you to help your daughter with the DIY. Good that the knee hasn't stopped play.
DT - Hope you enjoyed your birthday yesterday! Your plans for this year are shaping up very nicely.
TR - As others have said, bummer. Hope you get sorted.
OO - nicely done with the 13.5m run.
Joolska - it's all about the layers this time of year. When it gets colder here I tend to wear cotton joggers instead of tights. Although, it doesn't get as cold as that here, so I wouldn't know if they would be effective.
The lurgy didn't get any worse, so i went out for a 10k run last night. Got caught in absolutely biblical rain. 11c but horrible rain and wind. One of the wettest runs I've ever been on in my entire life. Much better than snow and ice, so I can't complain. 2 enforced rest days this week already will mean i won't reach my weekly minimum target of 50 but I'm not going to push myself as I need to get 100% better first. Just checked the weekly forecast for here as I'm wondering if the cold front will come our way and it doesn't look like it, if anything the opposite, light winds, 9-11c and sunny, almost perfect running conditions. Very lucky as you guys over there are experiencing some extreme cold temps. In a moment of madness I signed up to a local trail race, it's only a 5k but quite hilly and could be very muddy underfoot. I did it (the 10k version) about 7 years ago when I was very fit and it was very tough. Just a bit of fun to mix things up a bit.

It's lower back related, I started running more in my 40s to help keep back issues more mobile. I'm pretty sure not running 3000m on the roads in your 50s would help it no end. It caused me a lot of trouble at the start of 2022 and 23, but all the work I've been doing has helped, the stopping for food poisoning did it no favours though and all the plodding about as I got back to it. I've got some physio later today which will help, there's not a lot you can do at times for sciatic stuff. I was moving well last week and did 18m saturday, so something must have annoyed it, or pinched something.......it's only got to hold up for a few more years, and then father time will have got me anyway. I might be back at it next week, I'm just not interested in even trying for a few more days. Sometimes it's best not to ask a question you might not like the answer to.

Joolska I don't work in A&E (I'm MH) but it seems that it's as bad whichever bit of the NHS you're in. I had a similarly cold run this morning. Feels like -6C, heavy frost, icy patched, frozen puddles and I never warmed up. Sitting with a hot water bottle now whilst the house warms up enough for me to go and have a shower.
Gerard - glad you felt well enough to run. Hope the soaking didn't set you back any. Likewise - I paid Bruce this morning. Good that your mum recovered well. It definitely knocked my confidence a lot.
TR - you might get a different answer now. Advances are being made in diagnosis and treatment all the time. I think a few days off is a good idea.
OO61 - it's not a nice position to be in but it's where I am so just have to get on with it and find the balance between being sensible and being too scared to do anything in case. The latter is no way to live.
OuchOuch - glad you weren't too badly affected by the snow.

LMH - yes maybe. I meant I'm not going to ask the "How far can I get away with today" question for a while. I already know the answer at the moment anyway.

LMH- that is quite a scary injury and ultimately you can't risk not being able to work either. I'd be a lot more cautious also if that happened to me.
TR, sorry to hear you've reached that point. Hopefully the physio can get on top of it ASAP.
Gerard, thanks, was a pleasant day. Out for food and beers Friday evening with a few friends. Yes the year is shaping up nicely. Good that the illness has subsided. I never realised that Jersey was so sheltered from the worst of the weather.
Jools, well done on getting out in that. Yes it appears the problems are sorted now so normal work from home service will resume tomorrow.
Nice work on the MLR, ouchouch.
oo, sounds like a busy few days there. Sounds like the knee is remaining at 'manageable'?
Spin this morning and off for 7m when I get home from work. Don't overly fancy it, however i'd rather do it tonight than carry it into Saturday.

Careful out there DT19. Temperatures will be dropping and you won't be able to see any icy patches.

Evening
Hope you recover soon TR wise move not to risk anything
Hope the run goes well DT
Nice run OO
Race sounds like good fun Gerald
Can’t blame you for being cautious LMH
Just under 5 last night still a bit of snow around and one section from the high school to the main road was like an ice skating rink probably because of the kids sliding on it. Achilles felt good
