Got up to 2" of snow this morning and tomorrow we have feels like temperatures of -6C. It's going to be a cutback week for me.
Take it easy until you're 100% DT19.

DT - I run with a head cold, but don't push it if you feel ropey...........i still have a raised RHR, I didn't run yday, biked both ways. If i run home later I'll have had well over 48hrs since the HM......forgot to mention id had an upset stomach Friday and Saturday too, which probably affected things
LMH - whilst I cop some very low temps put in the lanes and a lot of coastal weather when i run and race. We get little snow down here by the sea, which im happy about. I don't envy you.
As above, no running yday, not sure I'll try today. Hitting the glute and hammy mobility and exercises instead.

London GFA confirmed.
Can't defer my Goodwood place as they have a 2 wk rule now. Although they'd probably let my change distance (if i wanted) as I've done that on race day before.

Verona Marathon 2024 2.57.11 127/1974 finishers
Woke-up at 6 am, with an OK 5-6 hour sleep, scoffed my 2 Belvita Hazelnut bakes, woke up my mate and we went for a the early breakfast put on by our hotel for the 20 or so other runners staying there. An apple pie, some fruit juice and a decaff hotel and we joined the growing throng of runners walking the 20 minutes or so from the historic city centre to the start of the marathon and half-marathon which was outside the Hellas Verona football stadium. It was cold (2C), clear, dry with no wind, pretty decent conditions.
We had the Italian national anthem and the countdown from 10 began. The aim was to run c2.57 with 6.30-6.35 miling for as long as. I was confident I had the pace but unsure if I had the speed endurance and didn’t want to start shipping 20-30 seconds per mile as the race progressed. The course was flat, the runners in the faster section, very pan-European, a decent smattering of Brits.
The first few miles flew by – I tried to keep a lid on pace – as often when fit, will do this 10-15 seconds quicker. Things settled down to the target pace as we ran mostly for the first 10 miles alongside a river. We then turned into the city, to reasonable support and said goodbye to the half marathoners and then out the other side of the city into the countryside. My watch said 1.25.40 for the half, the official time 1.26.20.
As expected pace was slowing and now around 6.40-6.45 which was absolutely fine. Took my SIS gels which helped and settled into the run. There was a few runners ahead, a few behind but mostly running solo. Tended to run with the same bunch.
I checked in every couple of miles and things were going and felt fine, I was on pace, nothing beyond a blister on my toe going wrong and just knocked off the miles. I was drinking sips of (very cold) water at each station, took 3 gels in all. Around mile 20, my first non-sub 3 miles of 7.01 followed by a few 7.11’s, but thought as long as I keep my head and running form will get the target time. A few runners now stopping and stretching and few wiser negative splitter going past. At mile 22, decided to do the Paula Radcliffe trick of counting to 100, which worked as sped-up slightly. A nice few minutes here as we ran through a large Italian army volunteer camp and loads of cadets formed a corridor of honour, paced out every 10 metres and clapping and cheering you on, calling out your name, which felt great. At mile 24 we started going back into the city, over a Roman bridge and then just kept on at 6.55-7.00 pace. At mile 25 you could see the Ampitheatre - the finish in the near distance and start hearing the crowd and tannoy.
Some runners where going past at a really good pace now, others struggling, I resolved just to keep plugging away as I have the Malaga marathon in 4 weeks and 15 seconds either way was neither here or there now, as I knew I had my time. Into the large piazza space in the centre of the city and there was the finish line, running the last 100 metres over an Italian flag to see 2.57.something on the clock with a big grin on my face! Over the line, a big smile, felt a little emotional, a massive sense of relief and achievement. A really nice medal (I am not normally fussed) and goodie bag, met my spectating mate and then back to the hotel.
A shower, got changed and back out into Verona, into a Bavarian themed pub (weird but why not), a few pints of fantastic different German beers and then an afternoon walking around the city. The city centre was fantastic, very walkable, lots of older buildings and roman bridges/ gates to admire, we had lots of coffee stops and then back to the square looking at the ampitheatre for supper – it dominates the centre of the city.
Book-ended with visits and a night in Venice, which really was an amazingly spectacular place to visit and now home, and pleased to see PO10 already have the result up.

TR, yes sounds like all those things in the mixer detrimented the half, which is a much more ferocious effort.
So with that knowledge and the fact that you cant defer, is it worth a punt at Goodwood?
Im also in for London, looking forward to it after missing it this year. Given they had reduced the qualifying time already by 5 mins, the reduction for a v40 was meant that 3.00 became 2.56.37 and open age was 2.51.30. They are pretty serious times.
Ouchouch, sounds like a solid run and a pleasant few days away.
Woke up to surprise snow as rain had been forecast, clearing now but till sleet showers. Think I am going to switch todays intervals and tomorrows MLR over as it will be dry and sunny and cold tomorrow. Just don't quite fancy the jeopardy of 10k pace reps on the current surface.

Very impressive run OO, sounds like you were in control throughout. Mixing different beers can be a dangerous occupation. ☺
TR.. congrats on the GFA place. Are you tempted to try one of the Goodwood shorter races?
OO61.. Great to see you got a place too, though you did have a decent time buffer! 😉 BTW the old sub3 forum regulars meet at the Red Lion on Parliament Street. My club tend to meet in the Chandos so I often wander up there later if I'm running or spectating.
DT19.. nicely done on another GFA, something for you to build up to.
LMH.. chilly here but not much snow. Managed an ice free run this morning.
Thanks for the sympathies re. my knee. About 30mins after the fall I was sitting in a cafe and for 10mins felt well out of sorts, nauseous, fuzzy vision and felt hot. Luckily it passed. I've had an ice pack on it 3 times a day since then which has reduced the swelling considerably. Managed 5m steady today, it is still slightly niggly so I will stick to short runs for now.

TR - it sounds as though you need to get properly better before you run again. Good to hear that you have your GFA place along with DT19 and OO61. I knew I'd have mine (about 45 minutes under the qualifying time) but am still waiting to hear if I have somewhere to stay and someone to look after me. Would love to do it again next year though that might change if this weather persists!
Nice running and reporting OuchOuch.
We aren't forecast a feels like temperature above freezing for a few days and it's supposed to get wet and windy later in the week. Work were desperate so I've picked up some extra shifts which will mean very little running this week. I need the money more than miles at the minute so it works out well for me really.
