Ouch Ouch -cracking report. Good to be so in control too, rather than on planet elsewhere.

OO61 - I'm usually at the red lion with folks i see once a year.

DT - good idea, don't want to be trying to hit paces in the ice.

LMH - sounds cold where you are.......I've had a lot of illness affected running this year, something to try to improve next year. Maybe more focus on health rather than miles ? Although the SPO brings a lot of it home.

Running is booming, but those gfa times are getting speedy. Good job I didn't cruise round London too slowly. I didn't enjoy the early miles this year as it was so overcrowded, but we'll see how next year goes.

Lmh, yes little surprise for me also as had a 22 min buffer. They'll be lobbing another 5 mins off the base qualification time in a year or two based on today's slice up.

Wardi, good to hear you got out, sounds like knee is OK.

Tr, yes you're always going to be exposed more than the average person with the other half's job unfortunately. Do you get adequate sleep? When my kids were both very young I would roll from illness to illness. I then upped my sleep and that improved things a lot.

Glad I switched runs today, just couldn't get going, felt really drained and flat. Foung strides I couldn't get much below 6.20s so not right and could barely move on any climb. Did a covid test when I got home which was clear but something is amiss. I was well wrapped up with double gloves on plus compression top. Feet got cold and wet though.

Well done to DT, OO61, TR & LMH for your London GFA acceptances. I know your applications weren't in any real doubt but it is a real achievement to qualify for London via the GFA route as you've earnt it, and as you say DT it is getting tougher each year.

Sounds like you need a bit of a refresh TR. Running a half when your not 100% is not an easy task.
DT - saw the second half of the Welsh rugby game, sleeping through it by far the best option. Take it easy now, its a tough time of the year to be training hard. Agree 100% on the point on sleep.
Wardi - Good you can get out and run. Knees seem to be the injury of the moment.
LMH - Snow!

With the cold temperatures at the moment and the forecast rain and wind, sounds a good week to be recovering.

DT - There are 10 of us going to Malaga, 5 running with myself doing the marathon on the last day of my 59th year. Soo nearly could have been my first race as a V60!

Not good DT19. Take care.

TR - as someone who feels that they need high mileage to run well I understand where you're coming from a lot of the time when you decided to keep going whilst a bit under par but I do think it can be counterproductive and sometimes you just need to listen to your body and give it a couple of days. Might also mean that your immune system isn't always on the back foot with the germs your OH brings home too.

We were down to about -8C overnight OuchOuch. It's bliddy freezing. Deadly underfoot this morning as only a very partial thaw yesterday. I coudn't have run even if I hadn't picked up the extra shift. I'm off tomorrow but it's not looking as though we're going to get above freezing again today. I could do a few miles on the treadie but it would be for the sake of it. Might head to the gym tomorrow just for a warm through and a hot shower though!

TR, I have to really make a conscious effort to make it happen, getting settled and in bed early. Generally I switch devices off at 10pm and wind down and aim to get 7.30-8hrs. It does definitely make a difference.

LMH, What area are you based in? The snow went quickly enough yesterday on the whole however we had a totally off forecast heavy snow shower between 6 and 7am today falling on cold surfaces. It's now treacherous out there. Will have to make a judgement call at lunchtime as to session or not.

Ouchouch, at least the football is going reasonably well! I like the idea of Malaga as my 50th is early January 2026, however after Lisbon I am not quite sure my mates are quite ready for a weekend away that involves someone running a marathon!

Morning

Great report OO
Well done getting the GFA acceptance DT, OO61, TR & LMH

Hope you get some decent recovery TR ready for the London campaign

Hope you get accommodation sorted LMH
DT hopefully you will be feeling better soon.
Glad the knee is letting you run wardi

Sleep is something I am rubbish with normally 4-5 hours after a night shift.

Physio yesterday agreed with my diagnosis and exercise plan and give me a couple of ideas. Normally a 6 week recovery time. Has said ok to do maravan but advised against wearing my racers due to the raised heel tab. Got some new trainers coming today that should be better. Weather forecast at moment is ok apart from wind gusts of 40mph. Hopefully the large static caravans will give some shelter.
Achilles is feeling the best it has done in last 3 weeks

OO - very nicely executed. Well done!

TR - that is all rather strange. Be careful please!
You've said recently about training being a bit of a trudge. Between that, and not getting the ROI you wanted, maybe you need to mix things up for a bit to freshen up and just pop in a race when you feel like testing where you are (and maybe that way the weather Gods won't be able to conspire against you ;) )? I ran my pb' when I dropped my mileage and slightly changed what I was doing.

Riggsy - good luck with the physio visit.

LMH - blimey that's cold!!

Wardi - I hope you and your knee are feeling better today!

Some nice training going on! Fingers crossed the cold weather doesn't impact you too much!

Yesterday was reboot day (thank you for the previous good wishes!). Nil by mouth overnight, bloods done about 10am, and then off down for cardioversion at 1pm. It was strange. The meds they use have an amnesiac effect, but luckily Mrs TT was well prepared for the afters (she's a veterinary nurse who does a lot of cardiac work and they use something similar) where I was either talking complete and utter rubbish or asking the same questions on repeat.

End result was that only one shock was required and I immediately restarted in a low-mid 50s range with good rhythm restored. Overnight was interesting to compare on my Garmin stress score (two pics below for those who like such things)! I've likened it to when I had tinnitus - I had it for so long that I adapted to it, and when it went the silence that replaced it was eerie for a while.

Next steps from here (assuming I don't go back into afib) are a 'next steps'/follow-up with the heart failure specialist nurse in 2 weeks time, a repeat echo in just over a month (where I'll also get an idea of how much/if my lvef % has improved), and then from there stuff like an mri to determine the extent of the damage and map out a longer term plan.
Once I get to the mri/longer-term plan phase I'll know more about my longer term exercise prospects, but for now I can start back walking (and have the all clear to drive again!!!) from tomorrow, so I'll take that for now and the uncertainty can wait for a few days :)

Afib sleep - overnight Garmin stress score 66, avgHR 75bpm

Post cardioversion sleep - overnight Garmin stress score 8, avgHR 45bpm

TT - Good to hear the reboot as gone well and hopefully the ticker will behave itself now. Hopefully the next few appointments will give you some positive news. Interesting looking at the differences in the stress scores. You must be getting a better sleep now than before the reboot.

About This Thread

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
