Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I wonder if the organisers can give participants an either/or option - keep running and use the steps or walk and use the garden. If the course has been re-routed since the event plans were put in place then have they had to re-measure it to get an exact half marathon or is it going to be a bit short/long anyway with the diversion. If it is not going to be 100% exact then the either/or option is less of an issue from that point of view.

Gus: Ah, that makes a lot more sense. So the private garden was never supposed to be part of the route, but as part of the intended route has closed - beyond the organisers' control - they've got someone to agree to let them walk through their private garden instead. That sounds far more reasonable. Not ideal, clearly, but I'd assumed that the private garden was always part of the route and the owner suddenly went back on their word, which I gather was not the case.

It will still be tricky to enforce. To be honest I would have been inclined to just use the steps and avoid any chance of aggro. You can't call it a PB course either way. I don't know how many steps there are but I would rather run up and down a flight of steps than knock myself out of my stride and have to shift up through all the gears again.

I can't help thinking the garden owner is a jeb-end.

Surely if they were worried about any damage caused by running, they could have just asked the organisers to pay for someone to come in after the race and do some gardening magic?
