So here’s a question…
Say I pick up marker #1 today and it gives me a 5. If I store that overnight will #1 be a 5 tomorrow or will the 5 be reassigned to a different marker?

If so (and I’m assuming that it is) if I was to pick up one marker the following day and that turned out to also be a 5 my number store would only have two 5’s in it if the answer contains two 5’s. Otherwise it would only have one 5 and I’d know I’d picked up the same number twice.

Is that right?
Does that even make sense?
Numbers make my brain hurt.

I have just added the ability to move your location (independently of your main Fetch location). In the instruction box, there's an 'Adjust your location' link.

We have had 48 guesses now, there are 129 stockpiled digits, and 208 players.

Marker #1 will give you a 1 today. And any day. And you keep it until you use it in a guess. Or have I misunderstood the question?

Is it obvious that I have one stockpiled number (and no clue)?

OK so, if I pick up marker #1 today, there’s nothing gained by picking it up again until I have made a guess, at which point all the markers will (may?) reset to different digits in the answer? Useful for route planning (or it would be if I could remember which marker I picked up yesterday)

The number on the marker is the number you collect - so if you 'hit' a #1 you collect a #1, hitting #2 collects a #2 etc.

As I understand it, there's no link between the numbers you (can) collect and the answer - if you hit #1 twice, you'll collect two #1s regardless of how many #1s (between none and six obviously) there are in the answer

At this stage, there's not much to be gained by having any duplicates. The best strategy is to get hold of any six digits. We know from yesterday that the lucky number is somewhere above 736,000, so if you use your digits to create a number that is higher than that, you can cut down the possibilities.

If we get to a point where (say) we know the number is between 811,500 and 811,600 - then having multiple 1's at your disposal becomes important.

Does that help?

It's already important at that point, Fetch ;-)

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
Sign up, and you'll see your local map, with ten black markers - each one containing a digit. Collect these on your runs, rides, walks (and swims if you're lucky). It's GPS only, sorry. When you have enough digits, try and guess the secret number, which is anywhere between 1 and 1,000,000. If your guess is wrong, Rundle will tell you whether you are too high or too low.

All Fetchies are chasing the same number. You can choose to share your intel from your guesses - or (moral dilemma) you can try to throw everyone else off the scent.

If you're the person who guesses the right number, you get a snazzy new badge. The secret number will then reset, and the game begins again.
