85/65s for me today. No pace, 24°C. Though I don't think it was the heat to blame, more the 10K race on Sunday (all run apart from briefly at two water stations).

lin50 and Pamruns--- you're both doing so well overall yet you want to do better in the park runs. Quite right to want to too! Try not wearing your own watches/timers or jeffing to specific times during it; run and walk as you feel and just get your official finish times. Maybe make use of that unidentified pacemaker and even pass them! The clock can create inner angst and spoil free flow. Ok...sorry, you know all this of course but why not experiment. The old adage that "if you carry on doing things in the same way nothing will change" often holds true. 5k with my wife (torey here on Fetch) who is also on the come back trail. The run walk was untimed, we know the exact route/distance and it felt better for me for a change. |

Missed your post Dvorak, well done for doing the 10k and all running. Only a day or two after a decent race no wonder you didn't feel you had any pace yesterday. Recovery important!

@steve45 you’re right…..there have been times when I’ve run and not looked at my watch and been surprised by how well I’ve done. Last night’s run was supposed to be the Garmin 10K training plan cadence drills (aiming for 170-180 cadence). It was really warm when I went out so I adapted and did : 0.75 miles easy (ran easy paced 30:30) 1.5 miles cadence drills ( did 30 sec cadence drill/30 sec recovery walk) 0.75 miles easy (easy paced 30:30) I love how being willing to use run/walk can give you options to adapt a plan. |

I never said it was a decent race, Steve (Actually, decent rather than good is probably a fair description.) @Pam runs, how far do you get in you easy 30 minutes? Might an idea, also for @lin50, be to split parkrun into three, walking a minute after each third*, rather than getting to two miles and walking ad hoc? Apart from that, start at the back: at least it will take longer for your HR to elevate. *Approximately, course dependent. |

@Dvorak yeah I've made it up to about 30min easy running so far which is fine. (That's about 2.75mile at the pace I'm going). Then at parkrun I forget everything I've been doing and just think I can magically go harder for longer. 🤔😁😁 |

That's nearly a parkrun already! And, maybe you can. My 10K race was 1:04:29, but I ran another 10K four minutes faster, a fortnight earlier. My last three parkruns have been 29.x, 29.x, 30.x. Outside of races and parkruns, virtually all my my running is run/walk, and not much of that at the paces I'm hitting for a 10K, never mind 5K. There's certainly nothing like 30 minutes continuous, at whatever pace. |

How fabulous that your Mum has upped her distance and doing so well. Based on how difficult I find anything over 30 seconds running lin50 and Pamruns I can understand how you come up against "it" . Still think that if nothing changes then nothing changes! (I should keep that thoroughly in mind!). |

@steve45 you're right about doing the same thing and expecting different results. My theory at the minute is to get to 40/45min easy runs so running quicker for 5k becomes easier. 🤔
