Yeah, I'm minded to continue using the Garmin. Mine is a 245. It's not always as audible and tactile as I would wish but since it's on my wrist it's easy to see and check. The Gymboss would probably be attached to the waistband of my shorts and not be so easy to see at a glance. I'll try it out on my next long run/walk. As discussed earlier on this thread it's only a cheapo cast-off from some religious (the instrux tell me how to programme my 10-minute worship!) so no great loss if money wasted.

Re the gym boss Muttley, when the 99 rounds have finished the machine makes a continuous loud buzzing/beep sound. Impossible not to be aware of it!
And don't forget that when it comes to doing several miles at 30/30 then the rounds will only end according to how fast you've been going. I know half a dozen people, including my wife who have basic gym boss and only a couple have ever completed a 99 round in any outing. I wear mine on my shorts waist band and it's very clear to see where I'm at in relation to number of rounds left and which segment I'm in. My Garmin or Suunto are much too quiet for me for such efforts. And also too much other stuff going on on my wrist too! Time, pace, HR etc. 5k at 30/30 as almost usual this cooler morning but I'm running poorly overall. Tut!

I have my garmin set to vibrate alerts I'm hard of hearing and don't wear my hearing aids when running as I worry about sweat breaking them! Garmin is also my alarm as I don't hear my alarm clock with no hearing aids at night!

Ah, that sounds promising. I'll give a try this weekend on my next longer jaunt. Ta muchly for the info!

Sweat breaking hearing aids? Is that a possibility?

I’m more worried I would lose my out my ears when running so I don’t where them then. I find the Garmin alert a bit more of a faff because of the other alerts too. My gym boss is loud enough even without my aids.

My question is is one lap you’re 30 second walk then another lap is you’re 30 run or is one lap once you have done both? If it’s once you’ve done both is 99 laps not enough?

Mine ticks down by one for every beep, so after each 30 seconds. Which makes 49 minutes 30 seconds total duration. My plan is to use it not for routine weekday jaunts, on which I'm experimenting to find the ideal ratio, but the Sunday morning long slow plod with brain in neutral and an eye to enjoying the scenery. That's roughly 90 to 120 minutes.
