It is great that you aren’t stop/starting - don’t worry about your pace and distance - it is fab to hear your happy. And if your pace speeds up you will be transitioning well - sounds like you have sussed out this Jeffing lark :-)

Garfield, that is great to hear - I haven’t done back to back but always felt much better after Jeffing my longer distances - the most I had ever run consecutively was 4 miles in a 10km event and I paid the price. All my longer distances have been Jeffers.

Like kwala I am only doing short distances at the moment but am hoping to improve my fitness and then my pace and distance. I have signed up for Brighton again (next year) so that is my ultimate goal - but in the meantime please want to work back up to 5km and then work on improving that time.

Yay for run-walk-run 😍

WP, back when I was doing nuts things, I was mostly Jeffing it - so 10 miles Saturday, 10 miles Sunday (I was training for my one and only ultra then, back in 2013). Not a problem. :)

kwala, it works a treat no matter what distance you're doing. :)

That's good to hear Garfield. I am tempted to do a long walk along the South Downs in the future so will need to do back to backs.

So the experimenting with run-walk ratio continues. Today was an easy run of 6 miles with 30 seconds of walking on each mile. End result 10 minute miling on the nose. Previous two runs of same distance with 30 seconds of walking for 4 minutes of running -- end results 9:49 and 9:45 m/m. Average hr more or less the same.

Thanks for sharing Muttley

Some of the seasoned Jeffers have seen a continued improvement on pace and heart rate compared with their non stop running or when walk breaks have been few and far between.

I'm still playing around but it looks like for "standard" steady plods the 4 min/30 sec ratio works best. I try to keep below a certain hr and this ratio generally means I can run easy and comfortably and the relatively short duration means hr doesn't climb too high (although I keep an eye on it). Walk breaks each mile meant I was slowing to keep hr under control and after a certain point my gait changes and it becomes uncomfortable. It's looking good. I think for the long slow Sunday morning plods I'll try something like 2 minutes/30 seconds.

I like those ratios too Muttley, though sometimes I may walk a whole minute. It all depends on how I feel/how far I'm going, etc. Each to our own though...it's always a matter of finding what works best for ourselves. When I go to HR, it's all over the shop, all depending on how my HR decides it's not going to play ball on the day! ;)

The thing I like about RWR / Jeffing is that you can play with the ratios and find out what works for you as an individual and can be swapped around to suit the distance.

I have always failed when trying to run continuously and usually end up breaking myself. This way I don’t have to conform to the standard and I can just be myself.
