Tuesday tip from Jeff Galloway...

“Ever find yourself getting very tired during a run, feeling like you are ready to call it quits?

Here is a quick strategies!
✔️ Break up the rest of the run into segments that you know you can do for "just 1 more minute".
✔️Reduce your running interval to a lower segment for example, 30 seconds, 20 seconds or even 10 more steps. “

Thanks for all of this Wom. I have a lot to think about now. Based on my last few runs I should be doing 10/30, is that actually 10 secs run, 30 secs walk? I thought it wasn't even worth breaking into a run for that so tried 30/30 yesterday. Holy crap it was tough - tbh I do tend to struggle more on evening runs but I very nearly gave up half way through my run (which was only 30 mins to start with!!). Going to try 15/30 on my next run and see if that's better for me, otherwise I may end up going back to my 2min/2min!

Hi Kwala, yes it is 10sec walk / 30sec run. I started off on 15/15 then 30/30 and 45/45, my plan is to increase the run and stay at 30sec walk. I found my first run hard but when I repeated it next time around it was ok. I have also been noting down my pace to see what suits me at a similar distance although I will have to play with the rationale I increase the distance.

See how you find 15/30 and then have a play - there is no right or wrong answer - some people have found that by dropping their intervals they have improved. Are you running too hard during the run intervals?

hahaha, no chance of running too hard from me, it really is barely quicker than my walk. In fact sometime I think my runs are actually slower than my walk - and my garmin seems to agree, lol!!

I'm doing 5 min walk to warm up, about 20 mins worth of intervals and 5 mins walk at the end, I'll try the 15/30 next time out and see how I go.

Yes yes yes. 15/30 is my ratio!!! I almost didn't go as I was falling asleep on the sofa, but forced myself up and out. I set my watch for 27 reps which is around 20 mins. This seemed ridiculous but they just flew by - before I realised it I only had 8 left and then I was done!!! I could have carried on but just dropped down to a walk for the last half mile home. I'll do it again on Saturday - make sure it wasn't a fluke!!
Wom - I noticed we were virtual training twins today - almost exactly the same distance and speed (not that I'm stalking you or anything!!)
