There are a good number of grassroots clubs in the North richmachriatmas, though more spread out than in the south. Whether a North region would succeed is probably dependent on how much cash you could put in to make it successful but Wrexham football is an example of how you can build momentum with the right investment. I think there’s an appetite out there (I know people who travel to Sale and beyond) and I’m sure they would support a successful Welsh top flight option, though successful would be the big challenge right now. Obviously people do support the big NW football clubs but I’m not sure it’s an either/or proposition.

North Wales club would be good for Welsh rugby, but Sale is right on the motorway network and one man and their dog go to watch them. I don’t think my solution is necessarily the answer but traditionally the clubs in the south west had big rivalries with those over the bridge. It would be good if those matches happened more often. |

Complicated , isn’t it? I have a mate who goes to Sale and hates the new stadium, so regularly chooses to go to watch Sale women at their old ground 😂 I don’t know the numbers but suspect that some Welsh regions would be glad of Sale’s one man & his dog. I see Ospreys are looking to move to a smaller ground. I certainly agree that more local derbys would be a good thing. Maybe when the Premiership gets down to 6 clubs they could join the URC 😂 (joke btw) |

Blimey. He hasn’t looked interested in rugby for a bit. Playing for a terrible Gloucester - and Wales - team he may as well try. Get paid more probably.

$$$$$$s And with the current style of rugby limiting the duration of playing careers, and possibly lifespans, who can blame him. |

B Rubble
North Wales do have a "regional" club, RGC that play in the WRU Premier League. Looking at the names and history of the clubs in that league you can see why the supporters are spread across clubs like Pontypool, Pontypridd, Bridgend, Newport, Swansea etc. rather than being inspired to support fabricated regional teams. Maybe there should just be two regional teams, probably Cardiff and Swansea based, but you will still have great difficulty getting supporters from the valleys to go to the matches. Although if they started being competitive the support might follow. |
