Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Gobi - my RHR is 43 -45 *(I'm 60 years old). Glad I'm not the only 'freak' :-)

And I'm 55 with a RHR of 43 (seen 39) and a max of about 185, and I'm down on peak fitness, also not a fast runner, but yeah, admit I'm a bit freaky

My average low is 45 but can go over 190 when working very hard I’ve always thought that showed I wasn’t very fit when I see others doing their hard at much lower rates.

My MHR hasn't changed since I first took an interest in such matters 20 years ago. 188, reproducible in race situations and very occasionally in training.

Looby Loo, I think the low *can be* an indicator of fitness, while the high is genetic. The older you are, the more your high is supposed to drop, at about a beat per year of age. I'm happy to be corrected by the experts here though. A low of 45 probably means a good level of fitness.

And at 56 ( :-o ) I've seen 191 in the late stages of a fake parkrun recently, and high 180s at other times. If I was judging my exercise in any way on a max hr of 164 - well, piffle.

I'm taking my rhr at 56 bpm, it's consistently roundaboutish, although I have noticed dips into the mid 40s after exercise on quite a number of occasions.

Yup, my theoretical max is just about a decent rate for a tempo run.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum: low rest HR (sub-35 at the end of yoga the other day), low max HR (168 sprinting to the finish of an orienteering MapRun this summer, but around 165 is more common. Surprisingly close to 220 minus age). Both seem to decline when I'm fitter.

my rest hr drops with fitness
my max is in the 190s now (47) in the past I have seen 203 and never been at the puking stage
my 5M PB had an average HR of 182 and each mile was 1-2s different in time so no sprinting
