We are replacing goody bags at our race with a water bottle - still plastic I know. Putting stuff inside the bottle and handing them out - a value item which is re-usable many times to replace a throw away poly bag. A small step I know but 450 put together in one go. Would have liked to gone one step further but costs / lack of sponsor limited us - maybe an extra wee step next year - or 450 more!

Signed. It drives me mad that every bloody thing is shrink-wrapped. I get fruit and veg mostly from the local greengrocer now anyway, who are used to me refusing a plastic bag to put stuff in, but it is more expensive.

Signed too...I'm trying to buy plastic free veg as much as is possible. Much check out the local outdoor greengrocers as they tend to be cheaper than the supermarkets selling individual peppers (quite expensive but at least they aren't wasted like when I buy them in plastic wrapped packs and forget about them! ).

Interesting you mention race goody bags Old Croc.
I did the Great South Run on Sunday, and the amount of plastic in the goody bag was quite worrying. Even the medal was wrapped in plastic.
Why do us runners expect a goody bag anyway? I guess that's for another thread.

Old Croc - have been giving events ideas on "goody" bag to reduce the packaging. Happy to send you ideas if you interested as well as reusable alternatives to cable ties etc

We discovered reusable cable ties a number of years ago in Canada while on holiday/at home. Hubby bought a good number of them to reuse.
