It's more like Wotsits that haven't been given the orange powder treatment than like rice cakes.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Just spotted this thread! Reading back, I see that someone (I forgot who) takes a reusable cup to Waitrose. Curious to know how they make sure that only people with a Waitrose card use the machine?
Also, does anyone know if coffee shops will put iced drinks in a reusable cup? As they get served up in those clear plastic domed cups whether you have in or take out, I wondered if there was a practical reason for the use of these plastic cups.

I heard (on a documentary a few years ago), that the plant based packing isn't ideal. Obviously it is great to be cutting down on single use plastic, however some of the plant based packing is grown on land cleared by removing rain-forests.
As I said, this was on a docu a couple of years ago, and I don't remember the details well (Madagascar and cassava packaging?). Does anyone know more?

Yes the polystyrene is the texture of wotsits. I remember lots of wotsit-shaped packaging years ago and I used to put them in a bowl in my office for co-workers. Some were fooled.
I take my Keep Cup to Waitrose. If it's a big store, I get the coffee first. I've been frowned at when I get to the till on a few occasions.

the wotsits packaging can be used for kids modelling - just wet it slightly and it all sticks together

I ordered some clothes on line from Next. Half came the next day. Every. Single. Item. was wrapped in a plastic bag within the plastic bag that it was delivered in. The next day, the rest of my order arrived. Four items. Every. Single. Item. was in a plastic bag and each HAD BEEN POSTED SEPARATELY!!! So that was EIGHT plastic bags for four items of clothing. I'm so fucking mad!! I only shopped there because I had some vouchers that the kids got for Christmas.

run free
@Fragile - they do. I normally tell folk am on a plastic free diet.
British Airways used to be a bit funny about handling yr reusable cup, but now seem to be with it. Would be great if they could simple put in a tank of water and use a filter to provide drinking water instead of using endless plastic bottles.
@Jenelopy - need to change society to BYOR (Bring Your Own Reusable) instead of always thinking disposable. Thinking single-use will always consume resources.
Just got the Singapore Marathon to agree to order t-shirts without the plastic bags....for their 50,000 runners

One of our wedding presents (22 years ago now) from Australia was packaged in popcorn. Throw it out for the birds, eat or compost. It worked a treat!
