Today is long range attack day, Yates probably can't close the gap, he's lost his key mountain domestique, so they're going to rely on other teams riding hard if they want to isolate Bernal. That means DQS I'd guess trying to get Almeida the stage win (or possibly within a shot of the podium tomorrow, as he is an excellent time trialler), but it all feels quite long shot. Caruso is already happy with top 3, so will take no risks. I know Froome did magnificent things , but Bernal's team is strongest and he rode maturely and sensibly yesterday, and Martinez has been a super domestique. Yates isn't as mercurial as Froome, I'd love to be wrong, but I'd say 2nd overall after today is probably the best he can hope for...

If I was Yates I'd have been making an agreement with Almeida to ride as a two up to the finish with the win gifted to Almeida. That's assuming they could get away as s pair from the peloton.

After cleaning up at the giro my velogames team for the Dauphine is a more heart over head selection with my hope for a froome resurgence!
