Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That's a shame. But safety, rider health must come first.

Bernal's back may yet be an issue. Giro has had recent history of leaders (Yates, Kruisjwijk) blowing up and losing good leads.

I'd expect Bernal to beat Yates in a TT. I also expect Bernal to be better than Yates full stop. Class of the field and I expect the only reason he's here instead of the Tour is due to back concerns.

We're all talking about his back; but is he? Seen nothing so far to indicate any weakness, so I'm not expecting anything to transpire - and "all" he needs to do this week is hang in there with Yates.

I read something somewhere (!) that suggested that Yates hadn't been well in the first week, thus explaining his lacklustre start. Maybe he'll come better in the final week, but Bernal has the easier position certainly, unless there's a group attack by a few of the top 5 simultaneously working to topple him.

There was an interview on the coverage the other day larkim, may have been the Breakaway on GCN+ where he said there had been some problems in the first week that he didn't want to talk about. Seemed on the face of it to be more than illness but that might be me reading too much into it

Bernal himself has talked about his back. Said he doesn't expects to have to manage it at least for this year. It's not about expecting something to transpire, it's understanding that it's possible something other than form could affect the race. Bernal was great last year up until his back issues started.

But has he talked about it during this Giro? I didn't think he had?
