There will be a lot of lessons learned from this Vuelta, which I agree was entertaining in a very different way to normal.
Will Kuss now be happy to revert to domestique duties? Now he's had a taste, will he want a grand tour chance again? Is he likely to get that at JVisma?
Will Evenepoel get the mountain domestiques he needs to help him mount a real challenge in grand tours, or will he move teams?
Will it be a different scenario completely next year if Pog doesn't break his wrist in the lead up to the Tour?
Will Eurosport finally wise up to the fact that Carlton Kirby, whilst probably being a lovely man, is an absolutely shite commentator?
Will be interesting to find out. Bring on 2024.

Unlucky Gobi in your attempt to do a Jumbo. Guess it was a GT too far. Congrats to GC Big G.

Thanks. A lot of luck involved as we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but I enjoyed the league and also the tour itself.

I don’t mind the commentary in the main. Can happily have it on in the background and I personally enjoy the non-cycling anecdotes as well as the cycling ones. Blythe spots things, live, that a lot of others don’t. Many examples, but one that comes to mind is Cav in this year’s TdF, where he could have won a stage, but Blythe noticed a problem very quickly that forced Cav to sit back down pretty close to the line.

I’ve heard it described as a ‘lean back’ sport. IE it can go all day and you lean back, kind of taking it in as it goes, automatically paying attention at key moments. I think Carlton and the team help with this feeling. 100m final, for example, is a ‘lean in’ sport.

Number 1 thing for me though is no ads on GCN. That is worth a lot to me.

I don't mind Carlton Kirby in the middle of the stages. I wish they wouldn't use him at the end of stages though (it tends to be only when Rob Hatch is doing a different race TBF) as he get super excited with about 3km to go and leaves nowhere to build to and ends up running out of energy.

I find him and Sean Kelly together hilarious with the difference in styles. Shame they don't put Dan Lloyd and Matt Stephens together on races as they would be ace - I wonder if they fell out over Matt leaving GCN

I see that Lukas Nerurkar has got himself a contract with EF Education-EasyPost next year
twitter.com Very cool, I've been following him a bit this year since I learnt that Peter Kennaugh was the Trinity Racing DS.

(I was at university with his famous dad, who I last spoke to sat on the floor in Oxford station, he was waiting for a train to Cardiff for a cross-country international. That must've been nearly 40 years ago.)

Good genes, Oranj. Didn't know his lad was a cyclist.

I like Kirby, find him pleasingly barking and a bit quirky.

I don’t particularly like overly slick commentators; professional road racing is often chaotic - part of the attraction, interspersed with long periods of bugger all.

I don’t think he’d work well in other sports but kind of suits cycling IMO.

I'm sure Kirby does other stuff for Eurosport as well.

Cycling is not as chaotic as Kirby makes it out to be when he actually tries to discuss it. I don't mind his tales even if they aren't for me, the time has to be filled somehow, the issue is when he gets on to cycling where it's just word salad a lot of the time.

Everyone else is fine, I have no issue with people having quirks, they're human and we all have them.
