Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

For longer than that because after Trump there’s the equally ludicrous Vance.

You have to be a citizen in America to vote, those that vote are safe from any deportation. It's those on visas that will have to worry and they can't vote.

This seems to be the best page for PA details on current result and exit polls.

nbcnews.com

In PA 82% of voters are white. White men was a given for Trump but without a majority of white women for Harris (42% of voters), it's an uphill battle.

PA called for Trump by Fox. Think it’s over; feared this all along - fortunately didn’t get too hopeful after that so called late surge/Iowa poll which always looked like hopium.

Disappointed to wake up to the USA news.

This will, in my opinion, be a cue for the opposing Tories/reform/other right wingers in this country to bring in Trump style campaigning and shouting over the next few years in order to get their voices heard.

Well the only good news is it looks like I am on for a good result in the prediction contest.

A sad day when the candidate favoured by farage, Truss and jenrick wins.

Just been through the remaining swing states; Trump up 150-200k almost across the board. Only one that looks even reachable is Az (and even that looks a long shot).

Electoral college isn't even going to be close. Why do we care about democracy when democracy delivers this sort of leader?

Calling people who voted for the other side stupid is a great way to win them over in future. It’s important to look at why they made their choice.

The US economy is supposedly booming, but I think you need to look a bit deeper and suspect that it’s only the case in the main urban population centres on the Atlantic and Pacific seaboards. Think about the deprivation in “left behind” areas of the UK eg former seaside resorts and post industrial north / midlands towns and how they have voted recently.

Most of the rural/metropolitan divide is driven by economic changes that have decimated rural communities. Places where the tyre factory shut down, the gypsum mine closed, the only employer now is a Walmart. Where the rise in gas prices is critical as every working member needs a car.

These areas are also deeply driven by a series of fundamentalist preachers, putting some pretty toxic ideas such as prosperity theology and the idea that god has blessed the rich, and cursed the poor.

I think this liberal sneering with no attempt to understand, engage or tackle the causes of this inequality is doomed to usher in the far right.

“Money spent on the campaign especially to the young men have paid off” I fear for the women of America.

People in the trump camp look largely ‘normal’ how can they not see how dangerous this man is?

I think it's about Democrats continuing to say things are OK and failing to improve material conditions. Their base knows it's not getting better.

Trump is completely wrong about why things aren't OK and will make things worse but he does allow his supporters to imagine - key word this - radical change. I can't understand why anyone would buy it but I do understand why they wouldn't buy either and not vote.
