The difference with the Johnson purge though of course was that he hadn't campaigned and won on a manifesto, and the rebellion was not on a king's (queen's) speech.

SPR wrote: I think we all criticised the Boris Johnson purge of the Tories. I trawled back and didn't really see much criticism of Johnson for that (though I may have missed it!). Particularly as it precipitated an election in the end. And it was in the lee of Johnson taking office only during that summer; in the context of that period of politics in the HoC things were very very different for any leader looking at imposing discipline on the party. The PM didn't have a personal mandate, the Brexit legislation had issues to overcome in terms of being accepted as compliant with the Referendum etc - all bets were off at that point. |

There was chaos for months after the Johnson purge. Because they were chucked out rather than suspended.

They were reinstated after about 6-7 weeks. Mostly.

I'd forgotten what a massive reversal of fortune it was for Labour and SNP in Scotland. Labour up from 1 to 37, SNP down from 48 to 9. Really just a straight swap. So Labour run Wales and have majority of Westminster MPs, have majority in Scotland and England too. They just need to win the Scottish Parliament MSPs seats too and they'll be holding everything.

Scotland is crucial to Labour being successful, especially in future elections where the anti-Tory vote is likely to be less strong. Probably one of the reasons why I am pro the Union; England & Wales find it harder to return a strong Labour government (under current voting systems)! |

Same reason why we'd like to sail off into our Socialist utopia Larks, and leave England to its Conservative destiny! G

I’m going for Mark Kelly for VP. Or Shapiro as a second choice.
