I think it may get forgotten about quite quickly given what’s at stake.

They usually are. The 'generic' argument against any Democratic nominee now will be that they haven't been vetted by the public via the primary process (which is bollocks but there it will be made). Harris' numbers are also not great. She's v unpopular as VP. But in a race against trump....maybe. She doesn't have the baggage of Clinton, but still trying to be a female president in the US is difficult. She'll have to get a nomination through the convention yet and there could yet be a fight. The smart move for her would be to bring Newsome in as her VP pick |

Was replying to JB 32827 SPR - it's an internal party process. As with leadership elections in UK parties, the process is up to the party. There is a process for nominees to be selected via the convention. |

And it's worth noting that the primary process is relatively new. Until about the 60s, the nominees of both parties were basically selected by a group of party "elders" in a room over a few drinks.

More news: Robert Kennedy Jr has called a press conference at 5.00 ET (ie 22.00hrs here). I didn't realise but he has always said he would drop out IF he believed the Democratic nominee could win. There are rumours going around he is going to drop out and endorse Harris. Crikey if true this could be quite a juggernaut rolling. Desperately hoping so (but not expecting, he's just as likely to say I want the Democratic nomination, vote for me, me, me). |

Clearly the primaries is the way things are normally done. The argument would be similar to the unelected PM arguments that were made here.

Trump has been sucking up to RFK. It could go the other way. But I hope you are right.

Except that that's not relevant because they will still need to be elected by the US public. Your analogy only works if an elected president was replaced via a party route. Instead they have a line of succession clearly defined. |

The argument that the candidate has been properly vetted is the only one that is valid. Democratic deficit is not relevant and unlikely to be made tbh |
